Y'all, be careful buying AWS standards from anyone but the new WEX outfit as some other vendors have put prices up above AWS list price!

I thought those things happened only in third world, underdeveloped countries like mine.

Giovanni,
Nothing against you but over here we say there is a sucker born every minute. I do not think the sucker has a choice on which country he/she is born in.

English being not my mother language, I don't feel ashame to ask what a sucker is. Perhaps someone that sucks something?

Sorry Giovanni, but I cannot touch that one with a 10' pole, and I am of half polish decent; :)

A sucker (slang used this way in the US,) is someone who is suckered, bluffed or tricked into doing, something that is not correct, or inaproriate, or buying something that is either usless, overpriced, or just plain dumb. Someone who is gullible.

Thanks Mike for tackling that question, I sat here for several minutes thinking about how to try and explain what a "sucker" was in this context, but couldn't find the vocabulary to make it make sense. We Americans make up more slang words than anyone in the world I believe. We have words that are understood universally yet we'll make up more words that could have several meanings depending on what context they are spoken in. I'm sure this is very confusing to the rest of the world. I'm thinking of several words that have actually changed meanings since I was a child, and some of those words were wholesome words at one point and now are used to mean disgusting things.

Giovanni; in short, a sucker is a very stupid person.
Parent - By pipewelder_1999 (****) Date 03-09-2006 15:01
I think gullible is a good representation.

Sucker is someone who would buy a quarter($0.25) for a dollar($1.00).

I would consider a sucker someone who buys a quater for a dollar because he fell for the sales pitch. I wouldn't call it a stupid person, stupid would be buying a quater for a dollar on their own, with no onw talking them in to it.

Gullible is a very good summerization. Two people go to buy a car. Both talk to the same salesman. It is for identical cars with same sticker price. Man (a) gets sales pitch, negotiates, and buys car for $5,000 under sticker. Man (b) gets sales pitch, thinks it's a really good deal and buys car for $200 under sticker. Man (b) would be the gullible one here falling for the "its a really good deal" pitch, thust becoming a "sucker".

Thank you, Gentlemen, now I've understood.

I agree Welderboy. WEX is the best. I purchased the 2006 D1.1 for 25% less than Global because I'm an AWS member. The discount was not mentioned on the Global website.

The discount is not mentioned on the Global/ IHS site, because Global is not AWS' official publication handler any more.
