Recently we have done some welding on "Domex" 100Ksi steel using GMAW and ER70C-6M-H4 Metal core wire. We had no problem with cracking or any NDT problems when the welds were checked. The problem is I'm not sure that wire can be used on 100 Ksi Steel. Can anyone give me some advice or point me to the right book to find whether we can use this wire or do I have to have the entire structure scrapped and build a new one?

Thanks

You'll need to check the applicable fabrication standard to determine whether or not under-matching filler materials are acceptable for your application.

Hello fireguy, in a nutshell, if the structure was engineered with 100 ksi steel and required this strength specification, then the welding done with the 70 grade filler doesn't meet the requirement. The only possible way that I would see that you would not need to change this would be if the engineering was such that it was overbuilt to begin with. Good luck in the resolution of this issue. Try a E-110C-G or a E-90C-G
