Hi guys.
I am new to your site and would like to ask the following.

At my place of work the customer is asking for the brazing of our refrigerant copper piping to be qualified to ASME IX.
Can anybody tell me how involved the testing of the completed joint will be.
I presume the joint will have to be tested mechanically.
We have welding procedures for carbon steel but never produced one for brazing so any help will be greatly appreciated.

The maximum diameter of copper pipe we will braze will be 1in

Thanks in advance

You need to get a copy of ASME section IX, "Welding and Brazing Qualifications".
The Code specifies the qualification of the procedure and the qualification of the personnel that will do the brazing

The procedure test will require both horizontal and vertical up tests in sufficient quantity to perform two tensile tests and two machro tests.  The size of pipe used for the test will qualify for twice the wall thickness and 125% of the lap length.
