I found the prequalified WPSs for GMAW in D1.1. My question is:
Are there any sources for prequalified WPSs for D1.1, D1.1, or D17.1, preferably GTAW?

Thanks
Eric Mc.

Eric,

D1.1 has data to develop prequalified procedures.

D17.1
4.2.2 Procedure Qualification
Procedures for Class A and B welds shall be qualified. ...

The balence of Section 4 details:
Methods of procedure qualification (4.4.3) and
Alternative methods for procedure qualification (4.4.4)
Along with Use of existing Qualification (4.4.5)

As I recall, GTAW is not recognized as a prequalified process under D1.1. There are AWS "Standard Welding Procedure Specifications" that are are supported by numerous industry PQRs that are permitted for use by D1.1. These are the B2.1-1-xxx series of documents. However, they must be purchased and are not free.

i have a question while we're on this subject. a friend of mine told me that they were going to use a pre-qualified welding procedure at his company and his boss told him that the procedure had to be "proven" before they could use it? isn't this already proven considering its a "pre"-qualified procedure?

That would depend on what their Quality Manual stated.

It also depends on the construction code they are using. Not all codes or standards accept AWS' Standard Welding procedures at face value.
