In preparing for CWI exam, I have been reviewing with the aid of "Welding Inspection Technology". It is the 3rd edition - 1999. Section four deals with weld joint geometry and welding symbols. Page 4-36, Figure 4.53 shows contour, finish and field weld symbols. My question deals with the portion showing the Contour Symbol Applications. Are the Convex and Flush/Flat welds in the cross section shown properly for the weld symbol shown? Is this not a double tee joint?

The weld symbols shown are in error. The other side fillet weld (double fillet weld) in the figure should be the convex symbol and the other side fillet weld (in the single fillet weld symbol) should be the flush or flat contour symbol.
This is a very common mistake and you should always remember, the arrow head points to the two members to be joined and the double fillet weld symbol does not even know that the right side of the tee joint even exists.
