Has anyone experienced their welding personnel having symptoms related to manganese poisoning from breathing the fumes while welding with 7018? I have not, but I have recently read quite a few "litigation" articles on the subject but without any reference to the actual electrode used. I know, according to the MSDS, that manganese is present in the fumes of 7018. I am QA/Safety manager for a structural steel erector and most all of our welding is done outdoors where ventilation is very adequate so I have not seen any signs but am still concerned that there may be a safety issue regarding the health of my welders. Thanks for any input. KP

Do a quick search of the forum's archives for "manganese"...the subject has been covered well in past discussions. Some were pretty lengthly.
