If a welder was to get qualified to weld on cranes used in construction an so forth (such as the lacing of the boom). Would AWS D14.3 Spec. for Welding Earthmoving Equipment and Construction Equipment be the standard? And because it is a standard or specification can one qualify to this standard even though it is not per say an actual "Code Book"? And if the welder has D1.1 qualification to his credit would this superceed the D14.3 qual.

Thanks,
Chas. Miller

Mr. Miller,
For welder qualification for working on cranes, you would need to use D14.1. I do not have a current copy of that one.

Though it appears to be a moot point, regarding D14.3, for welder qualifications it recognizes welder qualification performed in accordance with D1.1 within the limits specified in D14.3.
