Curiously it seems ANSI/AWS D1.1 has stated for a very long time and still does, that shield gases ..."shall be of a welding grade and have a dew point of -40°F or lower." Somehow the new ANSI/AWS A5.32' shield gas(s) specification that as of 1997 has defined welding grade shield gase(s) with dew point temperatures that range from -54°F to -90°F. Seems pretty cheeky of AWS D1.1 to generalize a dew point temperature range above what they otherwise specify in ANSI/AWS A5.32'. More to the point, I don't believe AWS' should call out any minimum dew point temperature above the minimum they approve elsewhere.
