Up Topic American Welding Society Services / Certifications / Standard Welding Procedure for GMAW-S
- - By Reggie Hudson Date 04-04-2006 19:36
I read in the last AWS publications catalog that a standard welding procedure for GMAW spray transfer was comming out in 2006. Does anyone know if it has come out yet. I have been trying for two weeks to find out this information. I sure would like to purchase a license agreement if it has come out. I do not want to re-invent the wheel if it has already been invented.

Reggie: I would send an email to ADavis@aws.org and ask your question of him. He usually replies promptly

CONSIDER: Spray Arc is a pre-qualified process if you follow the requirements of Section 3 of AWS D1.1. See Paragraph 3.7 and Table 3.7. Consider writing your own and save big $$$.

I believe the AWS published Standard WPS is B2.1-1-235-2006

PS - per your topic - In my experience, GMAW is generally accepted to mean spray ; GMAW-S is meant to be short arc.

"B2.1-1-235:200X, Standard Welding Procedure Specification (SWPS) for Argon Plus 2% Oxygen Shielded Gas Metal Arc Welding (Spray Transfer Mode) of Carbon Steel (M-1/P-1/S-1) Groups 1 and 2, 1/8 through 1-1/2 inch thick, ER70S-3, Flat Position Only, As-Welded or PWHT Condition, Primarily Pipe Applications. New Standard -- $25.00. [ANSI Public Review expires 2/13/06.]"
