Hi
I need some help with an over welding problem on 304 SS.
In my spare time, I’ve making a truck rack out of 1.5” X 2” 11g rectangle 304 Stainless.
The problem I have is over welding the up rights to hold the material. They are 6” tall and are welded to the horizontal piece above the support legs bolted to the truck bed.
They were welded on originally by a MIG machine which worked fine, but I though
the welds could look a little better, so I cleaned them up using a TIG. This was a mistake
as it pulled up the horizontal piece at every weld I dressed up. Using heat to correct problem doesn’t seem to work because after heating the piece it goes back to its original shape even when clamped down. Today I cut off one of the up rights and tried the heat method again but it did the same thing.
I don’t have lot of experience with anything smaller then ¼” mild steel and this has got me stumped.
I would appreciate any one with some good answers.

Thank You In Advance

Larry B.
