Question about 2 similar wires..As I understand it,, the R70 is an 'in position' only wire, and the 7100 is an 'all position' wire.
My WPS calls out the R70, or e70t in the title, but in the fine print, "applies to" says e70t OR e71t.
I used the ESAB 7100 ultra in a few places and it runs soooo much nicer, and faster...I'd rather use it all the time.
Is the ESAB 7100 ultra wire NOT e71t?
Is it more expensive than the 70R?
What other differences are there between the 2?...(other than heat treating....which is NOT an issue in this case)
My employer urges me to run the R70, not the 7100, why?
Also, with the (5/64") 7100 ultra wire, I can easily get a 3/4" fillet with 8 passes out of position, where I need 14-15 passes with the same size R70 wire.
WTF?

You are correct, the "0" means flat/horiz only, and the "1" means any position.

Is your WPS qualified or prequalified? Also are you working to AWS D1.1 or another code?

We use prequalified procedures here and we use both ESAB 3/32" E70T-1 (Dual Shield 111-AC) and ESAB 1/16" E71T-1 (Dual Shield ARC 71).

Like you stated, for some things the faster freezing wire does stack up quicker.
