Hello Everyone,

Could someone clarify for me what the M designation is for when attached to an electrode classification E9018M. I thought it meant that it was qualified for military use but, that does not really seem to make sense.

Thanks in advance

Military designation is MIL-E-0022200/1, MIL-9018-M. The AWS designation is E9018-M. This electrode is used for attachment welds on T1, HY-80 and HY-90 steels, such as those steels used in ship construction, as well as other high tensile steels that are quenched and tempered.

In SFA 5.5, 9018-M has a footnote that reads:

These classifications are intended to be similar to types of electrodes covered by MIL-E-22200/1 AND MIL-E-22200/10.

If you send me an email, I will send you more details.

AWS - M "Designates an electrode intended to meet most military requirements (greater toughness, lower moisture content - both as-received and after exposure - and mandatory diffusible hydrogen limits for weld metal)."
