Clause 6 — Inspection • Section 6.1.3.7 was revised to accept only Jaeger J-2 vision acuity for qualification of inspection personnel. • Inspectors, assistant inspectors, and personnel performing nondestructive testing are to have passed an eye examination, with or without corrective lenses, to prove: 1) near vision acuity of Snellen English, or equivalent, at 12 in.; and 2) far vision acuity of 20/40 or better. This is required every three (3) years, or sooner if necessary, to demonstrate adequacy. • Section 6.17.1 was modified to require test equipment qualification every two (2) months instead of every forty (40) h. Also, the horizontal linearity of the test instrument is to be prequalified after each 40 h of use in each of the distance ranges over which the instrument will be used. The qualification procedure must be in conformance with 6.22.1 (see Annex F, FA3 for alternative method). • Section 6.18.3 was modified to require recalibration after change of operators every two (2) h instead of every thirty (30) min. Recalibration must be made after a change of operators, after each 30-min maximum time interval, or when the electrical circuitry is disturbed in any way, inclusive of transducer change, battery change, electrical outlet change, coaxial cable change, and power outage failure. Fracture Critical (Section 12) • Grades 345S 50S and HPS 345W HPS 50W were added to Table 12.1. Commentary • Commentary for Clause 4 was added to address all of the provisions of Clause 4. Chapter 4 — Technique, describes details of filler metals, preheat, and procedures for consumables. Fig. 2 — An inspector performs an ultrasonic inspection of a cable component.
