can somebody tell me how much horse power the 200 has at high idle.me and a friend are  going to take an old gen. and get me a good used diesel and do my own conversion.the yanmar that people use is a 4tne88 so i,m told it is 88hspwr.that sounds like alot.

I'm not sure if I read this somewhere on here or what but seems like I thought the old continental motor put out about 45 horse power which seems really low, I don't know why but that number seems to pop up in my head maybe I did read it somewhere online

I think there only about 30 some odd horse power, 45 is alot out of a gas motor that size, The classic 300D with the perkins has 32.7 hp @ 1800 rpm, but it is diesel

52Lincoln: You need to look at the horsepower curves for the engines and choose one that will make at least 20 HP at 1500 RPM or whatever Your machine runs at. If You go oversize a bit longevity will increase, but if You use to powerfull an engine it will run underloaded, and that isn't real good either. My guess is that You need about 125 cubic inches in a naturally aspirated diesel engine.

thanks dave.somebody told me about 30 hspr. is what the gas motors run.i think i have found what i need.i will keep you updated.

You will have to search around some to get a horsepower rating at that low RPM. Engines this size are usually rated at 3000-3600 RPM for typical aplications.

If You get an engine made for a generator the governer will be the type that maintains speed with variable load, this is the type You need. Here in the US We use 60Hz so generators must run 900, 1200, 1800 or 3600 RPM. Units that use an engine this size will run 1800 RPM if 4 pole or 3600RPM if 2 pole. A 50Hz 4 pole generator turns 1500 RPM and many of the generator engines have governers that can run from 1500 to 1800 RPM so they will work for both frequencies. This is the range You need.

If You can't find the horsepower at 1500-1600 RPM look at the 50Hz continuous output rating of the generator that uses the engine You are choosing [not the engine rating which will also be in KW for metric specifications], it should be 10 KW or greater.

The aprox. 125 cubic inches or a little over 2 liters should be sufficient. You can check the displacement of the engines used By Lincoln on the 200D for comparison's sake.

yea i'm going to hook it to my shorthood generator it runs at 1450,or that is what it say.we are using my buddy's first though,he has a 57 model.man i appreciate the info.have you done this already?i sure would like to pick your brain for awhile.

52: I have not converted a welder, this is basic power engineering stuff I learned over the years. The Yanmar parts will be easy to get if You use the same engine that was used in John Deer equipment, they made the entire tractor for JD in the past, maybe still do. Kubota engines are good too. My preference is a pushrod engine, I would stay away from timing belt driven overhead cam engines, if You do end up with one, change the timing belt and the idler bearing according to the manufacturers schedule.

i have found a v1902 kubota.external mounted constant flow  pump engine.i was told this will work.

That engine may work fine. The welder will only use about 15-16 hp at rated output, and les than that in normal use. The low RPM of these welders is the reason they need a larger displacement engine than You might initally think. Is this a 1.9 liter engine? I am guessing from the model #, but that doesn't mean that it is. Can You post a link to the specs for this motor?

i haven't found the specs yet.just was told this is the one.trying to find info on the yanmars

also  look for a v1903 it just dont seem to be used has much.it is found only in a l3600 farm tractor.the v1902 is used in l3250-l3650,some minnie escuvators, and small loaders.

You know i've been thinking about the same thing you are , but why not use a Yanmar motor? I did a search & came up with some places that sell tractors w/ this kind of motor, unless you want to save some $$$, just a thought...David

it ain't set in stone what i'm going to use.but a friend can maybe get the kubota at cost, also have a few leads on some used yanmars.i was told that they are used in some refer units on semis.also was told parts are had to get for yanmars because of the grey market thing.i live around dfw and kubota parts are everywhere.wish me luck.we fixxin to make this happen LOL!!!

I might have a Perkins 4cyl diesel for trade/sale here soon if I don't sale this Big D4 of mine. Been thinking of scrapping the copper and selling the engine. No one seems to want a welder this big.

GOOD LUCK

i dont think it will be all that complicated.
