I have a 1993 classic one gas motor. It will some times rev to high and then sometimes it will not rev high enough or kick off with an arc. Also sometimes after you stop welding it will rev a little higher than it did when it was under load. What could it be maybe the linkage?

Nope sounds like the Read Switch.  Pull the hood off should be on the right hand side on the main wire that comes off the postive side goes up to the read switch.  Look at it and see if there is a lil glass tube or anything that has slid out may have to jiggle the wires a lil.  Try that.

Sounds like possibly some type of engine protection or warning if oil pressure is low or oil level is low.Not to fammiliar with classics, but I know on green light machines, they will do it.

Sounds more like a governor problem to me. Irratic enough to be serious.

Regmanager thats what I was thinking the Governor but don't know enough about these to be sure.
Can the governor be rebuilt on these??

Parts are available for the governors but it's best to replace it with a new one. If a governor flings itself apart and you are 100 ft from the machine, it might do serious damage to the engine. Pay the money and be sure. Joe

Regmanager is correct. You have a TM27 more than likely, and we have been seeing more failures of the gov in the past year. Governor # GD915. I won't guarantee this is your problem without seing or hearing the machine. Governor vendor Metro 877-428-4437
