Hi all,

New to this but I have a pressing question to resolve - has anyone experienced issues with welding a small standpipe to an aluminium tube only 1mm thick. The issues experienced are leaks when under pressure test. A robot is being used to make the weld but a high reject rate is experienced.

Has anyone out there experienced a similar problem and fixed it? I'd welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you.

Many thanks

Which welding process do you use? Is it TIG or Plasma?
Have you done any NDT before pressure test?

Hi George,

It's a MIG welding process using an ABB robot.

Sounds like a weld process issue rather than a robot issue ; I may be able to help you with either. 1 mm is pretty thin , what size is your wire?? What shielding gas?? Are you pulse welding or standard mig?? Are the leaks at the start, end, or random on the weld??? Is the stickout, torch angle, and speed constant throughout the weld?? More issues could apply .. Drop me a line ,, I'll get back soon as I can........
