I have a couple of customers that might be interested-- where did you purchase the parts and do they carry a warranty?
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-27-2008 22:00
I kinda got parts from everywhere. The radiator came from ebay but most of the welder specific parts came from Stumpf's. As far as warranty I don't know for sure on the parts. but I personally guarantee the machine to be in the shape I say. If something would happen to go wrong within a timely manner I would personally make it right. If your customer would want I would pay for your time to check it over. Im not here to try to trick people into junk with a new paint job. I just enjoy working on the  lincoln machines as a hobby for a little extra cash.

just wanted to know so I could let my customers know..
Parent - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-28-2008 22:10
Thats cool by me. Thanks for the interest.

Nice looking machine. Nice to know you stand behind it too! :-) Seems that there's lots of guys just slapping a coat of paint on & rewiring them up & selling them for top dollar lately. You're Dodge trucks are the bomb as well!

Cool! S.W.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-28-2008 22:10 Edited 08-28-2008 22:15
Thanks alot. I refuse to sell junk. Like i said I just enjoy playing with these machines.
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-28-2008 23:04
Yeah. I do too. Just hard to make a good living doing it. At least if you do it right. S.W.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-28-2008 23:18
You are so right! I am probably the worlds worst salesman cause I tell the whole truth about stuff I sell and if im getting something ready to sell I have to go through every last little thing. I just keep telling myself that the honesty will pay off! And atleast I can sleep every night.
Parent - - By JHarlos (**) Date 08-29-2008 00:37
That is one slick machine you have. You shouldnt have any problems selling that.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-29-2008 00:43 Edited 08-29-2008 01:35
Thanks alot. Are you the J Rod on ebay from stumpfs?
Parent - - By JHarlos (**) Date 08-29-2008 00:54
i dont think so
Parent - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-29-2008 01:29
thats cool , thought i would ask
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-29-2008 01:17
Yep. From being in business many years & still poor, I can say having a clean conscience is one of the top benefits. Making a ton of money certainly isn't happening here. If only I could have gotten into the welder rental business. Now, those guys make a killing. I don't know a single equipment rental guy who's hurting for money. Not one.

Do you do other machines besides Lincoln engine drives? I have a 1977 Big 40 that runs & welds. I'm dying to get rid of it. Just thought I would mention that. :-)

Again, Nice machine!!! :-) S.W.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-29-2008 01:34
I havent done any millers. i've got 4-200s that need done and 2 400s i might do. Plus this machine and a trailblazer 302 with all the toys that I may sell and so much else to do that im really not in the market for a big 40 right now. But ill keep it in mind
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-29-2008 01:42
I understand. I just want to make it go away. I figure it's got to be worth $1000. It has a strong running F 163, no smoke, a little leakage, nothing major. I would part it out, but I would off the engine & reactor fast, then I'd be stuck with the rest of it forever!! :-) If you come across anyone, drop me a line. I'll treat you right if you ever need a favor, or a little kickback for the help.

Ever thought of dropping a diesel in a SAE 400 in place of the Connie six cyl? I think it would be sweet. One heck of a welder with the guts to CAC with big carbons all day long. If I had the time & money, I would get into some projects. Unfortunately, just the daily grind to make the bills every month keeps me busy enough.

Thanks!! S.W.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-29-2008 01:50
I think about putting diesels in everything! I have a 72 400 with a stuck engine. I may do that. What I really want to do is start converting and choppin 200s. I got 3 200s that are 1965 and older that are just begging for an oil burner!
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-29-2008 02:01
Sweet! I still want to put an SAE 400 together with a diesel engine. I worked for a scrap machine service company for a minute & they did some pretty heavy repair & CAC. I got hooked on burnin' carbons & discovered how useful a tool CAC is. I have a TB 302 & it's a great light duty intermediate machine but, it can't do much with 300 amps max as far as CAC goes. Still, I'm grateful I have a 2 yr old engine drive that's paid for!

Good luck on the choppin'!! :-) S.W.

I hear ya on the 302. It was a no brainer for my business. I weld pipe at work with Lincolnsbut the cost of my 302 with the spool gun and wire feeder was still considerable less than running a Lincoln. My 302 has paid for itself many many times, and it only has 170 hrs. Its the perfect maintenance welder. Thats mostly what I do with my business, farm equipment repair. But when im welding pipe I wont fire up anything but a Lincoln. I would make you a good deal on a 400 if you wanted one. I want my 72 But ive got a 73 or 74 that runs but no spark. I havent had time to diagnose it yet. But I think its worth $1000 or so.
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-29-2008 02:32
I would love to take you up on it, but I got a list of crap to fix a mile long & no time or money to do it. I have a '55 shorty with a burned up stator & I really want to fix it. I got it for a song & have this far, resisted the urge to part it out for quick cash. I barely even use my 302, but I got it if I need it. I was using it every day, but that job went to pot when he wanted me to drop everything & pull 100 hour weeks in Georgia. I have a 30A for it but mainly stick weld. I didn't think it did wire all that great, but I had 250' of lead on it when I did. Too much V drop from the length, I believe. I got some S 32 V sense feeders if you know anyone looking. No gas, just flux wire capable. The price is right though. :-)

One of these days, I'm gonna get back to working on my own stuff. Being a one man show without a real job to cover the expenses, I got to wrench on salable stuff to make the ends meet where my wife's check can't quite stretch. Good luck on your machine. You'll sell it, no problem. There are still a few people out there that appreciate nice things. :-) S.W.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 08-29-2008 02:50
I love the wire arc fom my TB302 . I prefer it to my wirematic 252. But I never weld that far from my machine. Its just a pain getting all the crap hooked up to run the wire.
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-29-2008 03:00
That had to be the reason it wasn't MIG welding that good then. It stick welds very nice for a non Lincoln machine. I think the Old Lincoln 3 phase machines have about the smoothest welding arc there is for an electric power source. Of course, the SA is unmatched. :-)

Here's a pic of mine. Steve.

post a pic of the passenger side...PLEASE!
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-30-2008 00:39 Edited 08-30-2008 00:43
Here's a pic a pic of the other side. I also posted a pic of my ghetto fabulous lead reels too. Made from Seco fire hose reels. Cost about $35 to build them both. Thanks!! S.W.
Parent - - By vagabond (***) Date 08-30-2008 00:50
Nice trailer!!!  I'll have to remember the name of those reels in case I ever put together another truck.  I'd like to put together something just for doing gates and stairs and stuff since I'm mostly an inspector now.  But I could always use another write-off.
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-30-2008 01:42
Yeah. I got these from the local scrapyard. they came from a GM plant. I also made a reel for my torch line much the same way. Nothing spectacular, but cheap & works good!! Thanks. S.W.
Parent - - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 08-30-2008 01:45
you and i have alot in common. i go scrappin every chance i get . that reel would cost alot if you had to buy it.(sanford and son)
Parent - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-30-2008 02:21
Yessir. I did my share of scrapping this summer. I ran out of stuff to scrap. I was scrapping those Miller A/BP 330's & seeing about $400 per machine. Not too much around now to buy, you used to be able to pick those big copper filled machines up for cheap. We have a good scrapyard here & they treat me real nice. Since GM has practically rolled outta town, not much good usable scrap to be had there anymore though. I think that's everywhere now. I still have some stuff if I get really desperate. I hate the idea of scrapping good machines, but when you can scrap them for more than what someone will pay....It's an easy decision. I got a running & welding 1977 Big 40 for $1000 if you know anyone looking. S.W.
Parent - - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 08-30-2008 01:35
the reels keep the trailer looking damn clean. i  hate leads all piled up. they end up an mess. VERY NICE trailer. You take alot of pride in your equipment. A+
Parent - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 08-30-2008 01:36
fuzzy dice and curb feelers would complete this trailer! LOL Looks great!
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-30-2008 01:40
Thanks! I really appreciate it. I wish I could use it more than I do, just not a lot of work around here repair wise. I have done a little pipe, but not in a while. I have a '55 Shorty I want to restore one day. So far, I have had to fight myself to keep from selling it for parts for quick cash. I got it for $100 & will never find another deal like that again. It needs a complete barrel, but no money to even think about that right now.

Still, I'm grateful for what I got! Thanks again!! S.W.
Parent - - By shorthood2006 (****) Date 08-30-2008 01:47
you have a nice generator (welder)when the electricity goes out during a storm.
Parent - By sbcmweb (****) Date 08-30-2008 02:24
Yes, for an intermediate use machine it does a good all around job. I wouldn't weld RT pipe with it, but for general use, a really good machine. I have been very happy with it. Now only if I could make some money with it on a regular basis.....:-) S.W.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 09-06-2008 23:33
I have an s22-p12 with voltage control. just wondering what it would cost for you to put in new gauges and a new remote cable pigtail and maybe a new voltage switch. i had to cut the wires for the remote voltage cause i couldnt adjust it from the feeder or on the machine with the wires intact
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 09-07-2008 00:32
I had a complete kit for remote & meters! I can probably still get it back from the guy I sent it to. I don't think he ever needed it. I can re do the cable for you too. Maybe the pot in the remote went bad. There's always the possibility the remote voltage control switch went on the welder. What were you running it off of? I can take a look. The meter kit cost around $200 from Miller, I think I would sell it for around $125 or so. it is brand new. I don't have a brand new faceplate for it though. I may have a used one hanging around. I would have to actually see how much work it's going to be, but I promise I'll be fair & I guarantee my workmanship as well. Do you have any Lincoln shorthood parts?? Maybe we can facilitate a trade of some kind. Give me a call tomorrow afternoon, or sometime next week. Thanks! Steve 517 202 0314
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 09-07-2008 01:31
i guess i dont really ned the gauge. i just need the cover. figured they came as one. i only run this feeder off my trailbazer 302. when i first got the feeder (used) 2 years ago i had troubles with the cord. i added to it and had no problems. but now i have to wiggle it everynow and again . sometimes i pull the trigger and nothing happens. i would really like a new miller cable or if you can make me one just as nice i would like a 4 foot remote cable. im using the feeder now on a dozer im going through for a guy but i could free it up in a week or 2. any idea on turnaround time? my busy season is just around the corner. i got a 55 shorty but no extra parts. you have any portable feeders layin around? be interested in a trade in if turnaround time would be awhile?
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 09-07-2008 01:39
I don't have any portable feeders anymore besides a VS one with no gas. If the electrical isn't hacked up, should only take a week or so, maybe even a day or two. I would push it out for you. Chances are, the 14 pin has a loose pin or broken wire. The meter kit does come with a plate, only I acquired it all new, less the faceplate. I do have a used set of meters & I may be able to put those on, I don't know if everything's there or not. Give me a call & we can discuss it. I can put however long a cord on it you want up to around 20 feet or so. Some of the 6 conductor cord I have is is used, so I can save you some on it. I will just have to see how long I have to put in it. I usually get around $50/hr for shop work & testing. Like I said, I'll be fair, I just know you'll have probably $60 or more into shipping both ways, priority mail insured.

You may be better off taking it somewhere local, with the non value added expense of shipping & all. Just a thought. Thanks. Steve.
Parent - - By Marsh Welding (**) Date 09-07-2008 02:09
yeah by the time i spend $120 to ship i may be just as well to take it to linweld. if you have parts maybe i could just buy your parts . i would probably havr to call you for install advise
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 09-07-2008 02:20
Yeah, I think the S 22 I sold shipped around $45 or so, I forget. it would still be expensive & I hate to have anyone spend non value added money for shipping. Check the 14 pin connector & see if you have any loose pins. Just unscrew the two screws on the clamp, put it unscrewed in the connector on your machine, turn  to break it free, turn it all the way out to disassemble & see what the wires in there are doing. Like I said, maybe just a broken wire. Bummer is you need a special little tool to get the pins out, unless you can find a tiny piece of tubing to fit in the hole.

Give me a call anyways, maybe we can walk you thru it over the phone. hate to see good folks waste money for over charged service, if it's not necessary! S.W.
