I was looking for a phone number to get a hold of Sarge's, I found a number on the forum 1-800-396-4065 but when I call Alltel tells me this is a none working number.  I used the number around the 2nd or 3rd of this month and it was working.  If anyone has the number that would be a great help.

Thanks,
    Josh

There is also Welders Warehouse in Dallas that sells them for around 60 bucks.

Does the welders warehouse have a website?

what brand do they sell? are they a 2 piece design or 1 piece bent 90 degrees
Parent - By JeremyW83 (***) Date 09-12-2008 17:08
I will have to call them to find out who the manufacturer is.  I believe they are the two piece design.

WW has two locations in Tx.  One is in Dallas PH#(214) 905-9696; the second location is in Waxahachie PH#(972) 937-8623.  Out of all of the dallas/fw LWS I have been in they are the best IMO when it come to carrying piping related tools and accesories.  Others can get them but these guys carry it in stock.

Not to get off track here, but I have a quick question.

Which is the original design, and which do most prefer? I have seen both the 2 piece and bent 90 but I see more of the 2 piece. Just wondering. :-)

The 2 piece design is the original, and by far the most common.
George Gilchrist in Rock Springs started making them right after WWII, when real welding hoods (plus a lot of othert stuff) was hard to find or unavailable. As they say, the rest is history.
George made them up till the mid-late 90's when he died. His were signed with an engraver on the inside of the front panel.

There is one major diffrence betweet the 2 two-piece pancakes.  The Wendy's side plate is set at a 90 deg to the front face plate. The Sarge's side plate is set at around 100 deg to the face plate and is not so big.  This gives it a better clearance when bending your head around a piece of pipe, so that the side plate doesnt catch your chest/shoulder.

Not sure if others have had this problem but I have.

dfwpipeliner,
This is something I had not noticed. I will be paying closer attention when I am out on the ROW in the future.

Thanks,

i've got a 90degree one piece the name of it <original pancake brand> the company is in idaho falls, idaho i think tom waters, ram welding supply sells them they make different styles you can order straight from the company too what i like about the side plate is cut on a angle on bottom and top for less restriction and the way there bent it doesn't have wood bracing like the two piece, plus it has a lens closure so you don't get dust and debris on your lens were wendy's dosn't. i don't know if anybody else builds the 90 degree shields if somebody knows of different company i would like some info please. the two piece are more common and used

How do you decide which favored side to buy.  I am right handed so which side would I buy?
Parent - By dfwpipeliner (**) Date 09-12-2008 21:27
Right handed would have the side plate on the left of your face
Parent - - By snuffman (***) Date 09-12-2008 21:27
Its all in how you weld, but most common is if you are right handed the fold will be covering the left ear.

Try Tom Waters in Baton Rouge, LA. 1-800-460-6827. They make Pancakes in many different configurations. left or right-handed or both, to use with or without glasses and even some with a flip-front.

keep some gorilla glue in your pickup. if the wind blows it off of your flatbed while working, you will need some glue to put it back together. works GREAT. mine is covered in the glue.

I sure will, never thought about that.  Thanks
