heres on im trying to get finished but to much work going on to spend time on it, my helper has been doing a little bit of primer and bondo work getting it ready for paint but who knows when that will be. ive got to cut it out were this miller will be setting down on the first deck (the miller isnt mine its company furnished cause were running fabsheild) ill have a chopped 200 back on it eventually, it sets down on the frame of the truck. but im gonna make it were it will hold the miller nice and low cause it will be on and off im sure. when the cuttingband, wiregun, rodoven, ladder, ect isnt on it its ''clean short and low''. if i ever get to finnish it and paint it ill post pics                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii118/strickxxl/051.jpg                                                                                                                                                                  http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii118/strickxxl/052.jpg

Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 08-31-2008 20:52
Thanks man, that is my first one, already know of some things I want to do different next time. Also going to put chrome caps on the wheels., to make it a little sharper yet

Its funny, after the first one you'll be thinking of what to do different or better on the next one. The vantage looks great back there and some more sparkle and shine will do too.

I've looked at several thousand welding rigs over the years, some I like and a lot I'd do different.
But in the end, if a man has the drive and fortitude to buy a truck, build a bed out in the back yard, throw a machine on the back and venture out to feed the family dragging a welding rig around the country, he gets a certain amount of respect from me. Union or non union, mainline pipeline construction to welding on junk iron, If'n you've got the gumption to take the risk and get out there amungst us and "get it" however you can, then I say atta boy. I may make my bed completely different, but that's me, your truck is your truck so more power to you if you're out hustling and making it in a somewhat harsh work enviroment.
Not everybody will pack up and drive a thousand miles to take a welding test, with their last few hundred dollar bills in their pocket ; )
That's my take on welding beds.

JTMcC.

a...men !!!! I  totally agree , nice job Tex !! your work is your reputation , & thats nice damn work.

Do you think white is durable enough to be on the bed, it seems it would show more dings & dents and so on.
Parent - By pipeliner 798 (**) Date 08-31-2008 22:35
white is one of the best colors to hide blimishes, dents, scratches and so on
Parent - - By K.Sexton26 (**) Date 08-31-2008 21:39
who built your bed? looks sharp!!
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 09-01-2008 01:45
I did it myself, its my first one, thanks what color do you think I should paint it?
Parent - - By K.Sexton26 (**) Date 09-02-2008 06:18
with the cab being white i probally would paint the bed white also, just my 2 cents. he's right about white hiding dings, dents, and dirt too. are you going to mount lead and hose reels or has it got lead wells? when a welder takes pride in his rig and gear that lets people know he takes pride and craftmanship in the bead he lays down!!
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 09-02-2008 10:25
It has lead wells, 2 on the driverside for weld leads, and one on the passenger side for torch hose. I still have build a  box to mount my regulators in so I can lock them up too, I'll mount it at the end of the machine by the acy. bottle.

texwelder is that a F450 long wellbase?
Parent - - By texwelder (***) Date 09-03-2008 00:53
It is a 450 but its not a long wheelbase, its not the shortest either, they make about 5 different lengths in those trucks, I would have made it shorter but the fuel tank is in the rear, the bed is about 8' 10" long

I have had it done for about a month now I have just been busy up here in Colorado. I took my first test and passed it. Here are some pics.

Damn good lookin bed fella, the tail lights are pretty cool, are you goin to paint it? Also did you cut the frame shorter on the truck?
Parent - - By kevin26 Date 09-19-2008 04:09
looks good im glad your makin it happen, looks like he cut the frame right behind the spring hangers short and sweet how long from cab to the back of the bed?
Parent - - By up-ten (***) Date 09-19-2008 13:46
ya man, really get a kick out of your tail lights. I was wonderin' about your rear wheels and if your concerned with them being so tight.
Parent - By fordsux8269 (**) Date 09-20-2008 01:50
I cut it where the reciever hitch bolts only because the lights were going to hit. And the tires have like 3/4" of a inch clearance.
Parent - By texwelder (***) Date 09-23-2008 02:24

Parent - - By pipeliner Date 10-20-2008 21:28
