Hi Gang:
I have been doing some limited tig welding with my Dynasty 200 on varies materials, mild steel, stainless, and aluminum with Pure and 2% thoriated electrodes. Now in the safety aspects in the grinding process, as well as the welding, I want to try Lanthanated.
Now I learned there are 3 choices...1%
Black, 1.5% Gold, and 2% Blue, Lanthanated.
Does anyone know the differences or applications for the differences?
Thanks,
NDAV8R

For the purposes of manual GTAW in a limited environment... I don't think you will be able to see much difference.

Loose the pure tungsten... It will not perform properly with your inverter based Miller Dynasty.

My preference for all around is the lanthana 1.5  It performs well with DC and AC for aluminum.

Try a search here on the forum with key words like Lanthanum, and Ceriated/Cerium... There has been lots of discussion.

I just started using the 1.5% ones with an older Syncrowave 250, they take heat quite well, and hold a good arc on aluminum.

Most if not all of the tungsten manufacturers give a good breakdown of the proper applications on the websites.  They have ez tables,  I usually refer to these for my welders.  Sometimes it will be on paper somewhere,  but I find more often it's not.
