Up Topic Welding Industry / Technical Discussions / Welding Duplex 2205 tubesheet to CS tube

We have a new exchanger tubesheet which was weld overlaid with Duplex 2205 with thickness of about 4mm. Due to time constraint, we are unable to source for duplex tubes and hence used carbon steel tubes. The tubes are carbon steel A179 and seal welded to the weld overlaid tubesheet. I need to enquire 2 things.

1) What is the best electrode/filler wire for the welding and is there any potential problem with this welding ?

2) I am looking into using inconel 182/82 filler wire and electrodes for the seal welding. Any comments ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

One general warning: if the application involves H2S, dissimilar welds really need to be carefully considered.

A standard HV 500gm hardness scan may show that the weld is acceptable for service. The real test is to pilish and etch, and look for the martensite zone near the fusion line - good place for a crak to start.

If in H2S service, probably want to use a nickel filler, not carbon steel.
