i heard that if ya pass the CWI you can get VT level II through someone else just for passing. but i also heard that you have to have J-1 instead of J-2 wonder what the difference. oh yeah i just took the CWI exam on the 8th (saturday) in Baton Rouge. wasnt as bad as i thought it would be but the spec. is a lil tricky in the answers. the questions are easy its finding which answer goes with the question that gets ya haha. na but really i feel ok about it. just the spec. got me kinda wondering. guess i'll find out in a few weeks.

The wait is the hardest part. LOL There is a song that says that. :-)

I have heard that as well, just never had the need. CWI was always sufficient. As far as the visual requirements, there is, IMHO not much differance, but I was blessed with very good eyesight.

This might of been beat to death, but I don't remember seeing it so.... why in the world does it take AWS so long to give a guy/chick the results from their test?
It seems to me they are just jacking with the poor test taker. They could grade those test's on site, with the technology contained in a modern cell phone, so, why the dramatic wait?

In my opinion, its a personnel problem Mine was held up for some time after the usual 8 weeks. They essentially lost my visual acuity paperwork twice, and nobody bothered to inform me. I was told it fell behind a filing cabinet or something. After the second time I contacted one of our distinguished forum participants who shall remain nameless, you know who you are  :)  and thanks, and he got me into contact with a gentleman who got things done. After waiting some 3 months or more, my memory is fading on this, I had my results on my desk in 3 days.
Its the people.

ITs an ASNT visual cert.

crazycajun,
From what I understand, the cwi will not get you the level II VT. The level II VT has requirements (ASNT-TC-1A) not met by taking and passing the CWI. Some testing/inspection labs will bless you with the cert, if there manual allows it or .....
I believe it is the classroom training requirement that is not met.

thanks for the link

I hold an ASNT VT II through that process by submitting to the stricter eye test required by ASNT. But I thought there was a cut-off date that you had to meet before grandfathering in.

There was a transition period in 2004 that allowed a CWI or SCWI to be certified to ACCP Level II VT direct or remote.
Parent - - By crazycajun (**) Date 11-12-2008 04:30
i think that is is accp that allows it to happen.and the last i heard of it was a few months ago until i went test. and a few of the guys over there told me the same thing, so i guess its still fair game as long as you get the J-1 eye acuity exam. so i guess i will see what i can do as soon as i get those results back. so what ya'll think the going rate is for a new CWI holder.

I HAVE JUST FILLED OUT MY PAPER WORK AND ALSO HAD MY LEVEL III GIVE THE J1 FOR ONLY ONE EYE/COLOR BLINDNESS TEST, SO I SHOULD HAVE IT ONCE THE PAPER WORK GETS APPROVED. ALSO THE LINK IN MY PREVIOUS POST IS PART OF THE ACCP CERTIFICATION.

HERES A LINK TO THE APPLICATION FROM ASNT: http://www.asnt.org/certification/levelii/app-a2w.pdf

Crazycajun,
Keep us posted on the outcome.

As far as going rate for new CWI's well that is a broad question that has many determining factors, such as location, past experiance, what code you tested to as opposed to what inspection you start with, ect. This has been discussed many times at length. I would suggest doing a search of the forum for "going rate for CWI" or something along that line.

Just a ball park figure, $20 to $25 per hour. But of course this could be a "give or take a little" situation depending on the factors mentioned.

I know, not much help. LOL

hey awhile back i seen someone say that there is a way to use the quick check to see if you pass. i checked it out but i need to know is. does your exp. date have the exact same date as the day you tested on.  like i tested 11-8-08 will it be my exp. date or is it random?
Parent - - By ctacker (****) Date 11-13-2008 01:26
you will start with number 0812 then the next 3 are random, and the last is usually 1 but could be 3(does anyone have a 3 ?) so it would look like this "0812XXX1  or 0812XXX3" you can just start with 08120011 then keep going up. 08120021, 08120031, 08120041 etc.
Good Luck!

(the first four are the year and month, you took in 11th month, so your cert would start on the first day of the 12th month!)

Ctacker,
Are you positive about the date assignment? I am pretty sure I tested in October and I have a 10 for that designation. Maybe this depends on location, who is administering, and time of year. Regardles your description of the designation is dead on. Nice job. :-)

the 08 is the year, the 12 is the month, I tested on october 8 2007, my cert # is
0711XXX1
where 07= year,
11= month following exam,
XXX is random(mine happens to be 047 I think)
and 1 is for CWI status

I started checking 0710 as the year and month I tested, and thought I failed, until someone told me the month following the exam is the month the cert starts. (not sure how they would handle a 30th day of the month exam though)

Regards, Carl

Edit, The numbers I use are for cheking the CWI quik check, the expiration would be 3 years later!

Carl,
I looked at my records and I did indeed test in late September. :-)

Your expiration date should be 11-2011. It is not random. You will be required to renew after three years and at this point in time that basically, but not limited to, and subject to change by powers larger than you or I, consists of documenting at least two years utilizing the practice, eye test, completed application (key word is completed) and of course, the renewal fee. :-)

You do this at 3 & 6 year marks and then comes SCWI.

jrw159 :-)
Parent - - By crazycajun (**) Date 11-13-2008 01:37
so after 6 yrs is the SCWI
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 11-13-2008 01:43
After 6 and at 9. On your ninth year, you will test.

Yes at nine years you take the whole shooting match over. It would then be a good oppurtunity to have an endorsement such as Bridge or API. You can also take radiographic intrepreter test in leiu of the 9 year retest. since AWS allowed this, I am sure alot of people will go this route.
