In the AWS D1.1, ASTM A992 is listed as a Gr.II in Table 3.1, pp63. In AWS D2.1, it is listed as Gr. 1 In Table IV-1 pp99, and IV-2 pp140. Am I missing something, or just not getting something right?

I think you meant B2.1 instead of D2.1. I could not find a listing for a D2.1 standard. The group numbers in D1.1 are not meant to be the same as the base metal grouping numbers in B2.1, and vice versa. They are two completely seperate codes and base metal numbering systems.

You are correct. B2.1. Then there is no conflict if I use A992 as Group I for a welding procedure?

Depends on which code you're working to. If you're working to D1.1, the WPS has to cover Group II base metals. If you're using B2.1, the WPS has to cover Base Material No. 1, Group 1 base metals. Don't confuse the numbering systems between the 2 different codes. The numbers assigned to a base metal are not meant to be interchangeable from one code to the other.

OK. So now I need to find a post that I can learn the difference between the D1.1 Code group and the B2.1 Specification group. I just thought that ASTM/AWS base metal Groups would be the same. Any suggestions?
