I think the Cable remote is more accurate than the dials on my 1974 SA-200!

my other machine seemed a lil cold with the remote i asked about it and was told it will run a lil colder cause it's a voltage transfer just have to find the right spot i cant use my remote right now i was out ona job and the rheostat went out on the machine and had to rob it form the remote

You won't be sorry. And talk about customer service! Ms. Cable is the sweetest lady!

FYI, when you get the remote if at all possible set the welding machine where the remote is working at the middle to the upper limits of the dial! This way the remote doesn't get warm / hot. Might save you a call to Ms. Cable.   ;o)

Parent - - By wagon83 (**) Date 12-12-2008 22:56
Yes there is a website www.tomwatersonline.com  there catalogs are on backorder so you have to call if you find anything you want. It is the only place I have found that sells the pancake hood
Parent - - By Josh Flynn (**) Date 12-12-2008 23:18
You can try wendyspancakes.net  or sarges.

This is one I bought from someone on this forum that goes by psyco33.  He gave me the option of shiny finish or brushed.  it has worked well in all situations and is built rugged.

I duct taped the pigtail to the handle myself.

Parent - - By stkwldr (**) Date 12-13-2008 00:14

I don't think John (psycho33) has the circuit breaker. that way he has no infridgement
Parent - - By stkwldr (**) Date 12-14-2008 02:37 Edited 12-15-2008 00:56
I have opened up the one john sold me and you are corect, no circuit breaker.  Do all other after market remotes discussed here have a circuit breaker?  Can one be installed or is it necessary?  I have not had any trouble with the one I have. I does get warm, but not hot. He also uses 12/4 wire which is really heavy guage wire.

((edit:10/4 wire))  the wires are wired directly to the outlet on the machine that has its own circuit breaker for tools, and the other two wires from the rheostat go through the fuse beneath the rheostat. so maybe thats how it's taken care of.

it will get warm from the current running thru it if it gets to hot to touch something is wrong some where
Parent - - By stkwldr (**) Date 12-14-2008 17:23
I have not had that problem at all
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 12-14-2008 18:06
the 12/4 wire is the way to go i use to run a 14 gauge extention cord for my remote and it seemed real cold i called kaye and the first thing she said was to change the cord i had a 12/4 on the truck and it changed it alot
Parent - - By stkwldr (**) Date 12-15-2008 00:52
a correction, both pigtails on remote and machine are 10/4 wire. The extention cord wire is 100' of 14/4 sjoow.(about the same O.D. as you would see on an orange extention cord)  I see no drop in heat.  it seems to run identical to the machine.
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 12-15-2008 01:45
with my luck it was prolly a short or bad connection in the cord i was using oh well no biggie remote is down right now any way i fried the rheostat on a machine last week and robbed it out of the remote watch out for mud dobber nests in your contols they will fry a rhestat it takes a week or so but it will pop when you least expect it like in between rods lol
Parent - By KSellon (****) Date 12-15-2008 15:35
14 ISN'T THAT BAD-- ALOT OF PEOPLE USE THE CHEAP 16 OR 18/3 EXTENSION CORDS- THATS WHERE YOU WILL NOTICE PROBLEMS OVER THE LONG HAUL
