That is a very clean, simple, purpose-built rig.  Not a lot of flash, just a whole lot of business...

Looks like you are ready the weld the living crap out of something.  I like it.

Now, best of luck getting it to work soon.

Ya I don't like the fancy ones I would feel like I could not work off it for fear of getting it marked up or some grinding dust on it my dad always ran this kind of simple tough all steel working type of rig just keeping with tradition...
I will add a few things over time but have to watch the money until thing break loose

so far I think I am getting around 14 mph so I'm happy about that

Vantage, See you decided on the STERLING ,good luck ,you might have good hunting out in CAL.,NEV. ,N.MEX.,etc. Here alot about big water lines out there, you definatley have a big enough welder and a reliable platform to do that work. GOOD LUCK     PS GO STEELERS AND PENS

Nice and simple.

Why does your welding apparatus have the size of a dog house?

3.2

That's a monster of a welder, got a good truck to haul it with though. I agree with the simple. The one fella did an awesome job on a bed he showed on here.....I'm like you though I'd be worried about scratching in, burning it or something.

I thought that I would bring the springs down with the weight of all that and it did not move but maybe an 1.5 inches I have guessing 3000 lbs now and I still don't feel like I have any thing on it I will probably never load the thing up with enough weight to get to the helper springs

What with the Ford mud flaps covering the rear tires?

Nice looking rig and love the machine.
Parent - - By vantage500man (**) Date 02-01-2009 21:06
Ya I bought at a ford stealer ship  here in town they had 5  left trying to get rid of them now that sterling is no longer got a good deal but nothing to brag about
I should of done it in 06 like I wanted to but family talked me out of it now with the emission crap I wished I did
Parent - - By JeremyW83 (***) Date 02-01-2009 21:17
Just ragging on you a bit.  Im a cummins man too.  Maybe when you get some work your can find some cummins ones to put on it.

You can get a delete system for the exhaust and for the egr system.  Guy that have done it are seeing 20 mpg.
Parent - By vantage500man (**) Date 02-01-2009 21:22
ya I will do that as soon as I see that I will not have to par take in any warrantee issues then it will fall off when I drive down the bumppy road and I will put a straight pipe a lot of info on the cummins forums bout it but thank you
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 02-01-2009 21:19
oh yeah, emissions junk. Diesels are more efficient than gas burners, cleaner burning and our government is doing everything it can to choke the diesels down. I can get 22 mpg out of my truck at 9300lbs and guys on another site I go to talk about their 3/4 tons with all the emissions garble getting 14-15 mpg or worse on the fords.
Parent - - By vantage500man (**) Date 02-01-2009 21:25
here in Mi it's a 10.000.00 fine if you get caught with out that stuff on your truck and my stealership told me they will turn you in if they see it I told my self I will not be coming back to you for any thing
Parent - - By arrowside (**) Date 02-01-2009 22:06
Should have told the dealer idiot that right then and there. What a bloomin idiot they must be to say something like that to a customer! Man I'd a peeled that fool a new one.
Parent - - By vantage500man (**) Date 02-01-2009 22:09
I think he thought he was doing me a favor and saving me from getting in trouble with D.O.T if I tried to tear out the emissions stuff  I just left it alone all I wanted to do get the truck and get it done and on the road to work
Parent - - By arrowside (**) Date 02-01-2009 22:21
I hear ya, but that whole, " we'll turn you in" thing would have chapped my backside for sure. He could have chose a better way to put it. Just my .02
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 02-01-2009 22:53
That's for sure, what a boob(stealership guy). there are guys over on that other site asking how to take it off and doing it I guess. DPF delete is what they are calling it, they however are not toting a welder and gear stickin' out like a sore thumb broadcasting to the local d.o.t guy. I don't mind doing some things to mine but it's main purpose til I can afford a new rig is just that, being the rig and making money. One day when I can afford something else, sure I'll bomb the heck out of this truck I have now with twins, injectors etc, etc.....or maybe not, does just fine going from point A to point B

i have an 08 dodge cab and chassis and i took off the dpf and the Egr at around 10000K.  so far i havent had any problems yet (Knock on wood) been to the dealer once for warranty on a battery and no problems there.  a bit more power alot more noise and raised my MPG about 2.  im currently getting 14 MPG sitting at 13K lbs. i highly recommend doing it.
Parent - By lastmileweldin1 (**) Date 02-03-2009 17:51
I've got a 07 dodge cab chassis and also took off the dpf and egr. I'm around 13k and went from 10 mpg to 15 mpg. I gotta agree that it loosened up alot more power once that garbage was gone. I have had no problems other that the check engine light.

Parent - By vantage500man (**) Date 02-04-2009 13:00

Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 02-03-2009 07:09
Makes me glad I got my 05 before they started puttin all that crap on. Rig looks good.

Nice Rig.. A plain truck like that wont attract the cops as easily as the BLINGING trucks will..
