I just finally got a call back for a welding job interview.  Im still in college for welding so i have never had a welding job before.  I got a call back from a place i am absolutly excited to the max to work for.  My favorite area in wisconsin and a job that absolutly thrills me even thinking about working there.  I just have a few questions what should i really expect.  I know theres a weld test, an interview, and a written test.  But i have no ideal how all this goes in the welding fields.  Any pointers or things i should absolutly not do durring this?   Thank you

Be on time to the interview

Wear clean new work cloths and Iron them.  A dirty hood and stained leather jacket say you have worked... A rumpled shirt and stained jeans say you don't care about the interview.

Write down a list of questions for you to ask them. Interviews go both ways.  Notes keep you on track when you are nervous.

Have all the materials, tools and PPE you will need for the test and exam.

Understand ALL the terminology for the welding process you are being tested on.

You may or may not be given a WPS for your practical (assuming you pass the written test)  So be ready with more notes for parameters... GMAW spray and short circuiting parameters (for 0.035 and 0.045 solid wire) if that is what you will be tested on... If the test if FCAW have parameters in your notes for both 75/25 and C02 unless you know what they are using comming in.

Most important.. Be honest!   Do not lead them to believe you can do something you have never done...  Let them know what you can do and that you are very willing to be trained on things you haven't yet explored in school.  People are very willing to train up an inexperienced but humble go getter... They will never forget if you lie.

Last thing... Before you leave the interview you MUST as them this question.... "When do I start?"

What part of Wisconsin are you in and who are you testing for?

Go get em!

tell them you are there to work not looking for a job, and heed lawrence's advice.
if your nervous tell them its cause you really want the opportunity to work for their company.
tell them you are excited about the opportunity.
don't wear cologne or hair product or t shirts with slogans or beer ads.
be as confident as you can and don't worry cause everyone had to go on their first interview. including the people that are interviewing you.
you'll be fine, just pretend your grandma is in the room and don't say anything that would offend her.
most of all be yourself cause that's who you got to live with and that's who your gonna be bringing to work every day.
good luck son.
tell the truth and fear no man.

You probably already know this, but like Lawrence said make sure you bring your PPE (do NOT forget safety glasses), welding jacket, hood and gloves. I know this sounds obvious, but when I worked the shop floors, I watched a number of guys come in to test who didn't bring a hood or gloves. Needless to say those guys didn't make it. You sound like you are already somewhat familiar with this company. Maybe you may have a good idea of what welding processes they use and material types that they weld on. If so, familiarize your self with them, and maybe most important. Don't go in with a I know this and I know that attitude. Show them that you have abilitiy to be a good worker and that you can be flexible and are willing to learn.

That is all good advice your first image is every thing I like to see a guy carry in a bag full of all his gear like he is going to stay all day and weld. But be ready for anything whenever we test 6g in the shop my forman will shake the guys hand and say there is the machine here are your coupons no reason to talk to you if you can't weld oh and he gives them a little mind game to so shake it off if they mess with you. And if he is kind of worried about your on the job time tell them don't worry I learn fast and I'm smart enough to listen.

Yea I'm a little farmiliar with the job.  Its Manitowoc crane in Manitowoc.  My Moms side of the family lives in sheboygan.  So i know the area pretty good.  But my step cousins friend took all the tests and he was hired but he failed the drug test.  Ive never did drugs so im good on that part.  I got a heads up on what the test are maybe they change them i dont know but i know its smaw, gmaw, and fcaw.  Fillet welds 1 and 3 passes.  Interview im not to worried about.  But i just never had a welding job before so this might be a little different.  Ive been a cabinetmaker/finish carpenter the last 3 years.  So im tring to get out of that.  But thanks alot guys this job means more to me than anything right now.

It's simple.  Relax, be honest, and be willing to work.  Those three qualities are what seperate good employees from the great. Just my 2 cents.
