Obama campaigned on, and publicly stated recently, he was going to begin dialogue to restructure Social Security. Part of his overall Balance the Budget Plan.
Well, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the extreme lefties put the nix on that. They will not allow anybody, not even one of their own, to go messin with that sacred cow.
Obama backed down. Imagine that.
The spin is that Medicare and Medicaid are more important for now.
Then why did you bring it up?
Most reports now say this issue may have to wait for a second term if he has one. Imagine that.
And he just recently said he will balance the budget in 2013? 2013????? Ya'll get the significance of that?
Ya think he'll hesitate to campaign on it AGAIN!!!!

'Change We Needed But I Didn't Get to That One Either'

Obama has long long history of caving to the extreme left. and now he's done it again. Imagine that.
But you gotta hand it to him. Pretty words go a long way towards distracting just enough to keep getting him in office.

Oh, and just to add: the budget defecit for 2008 was 533 billion. It is projected in 2009 at 1.3 trillion. Now Obama has stated he will cut the deficit in half by 2012 (don't overlook the significance of that either). But from what number will it be in half. If its half of 2009 its still 117 billion over Bush's defecit. One that the dems harped on to no end. I'm sure they will be quiet this time.

But it only is bad if someone with the wrong initial is in office. Anyone with even part of a mind can see through this cluster*#*#. I would venture to say that even Jimmy the peanut is confused by  "O".  The thought that "O" would be able to deliver such a long list of promises is as far fetched as "O" not raising taxes to pay for the Socialization Package.

Peelousy is like Barney Frankenweenie, never doing anything unless its got some ching coming her way.

The change is coming in the next election as the DEms well know. Why else would they $peed dial $ocial $pending  bill through so fast even with over 200 top economists so against it?  Just thinking that most people who are only affected by paying more taxes to pay for the PORK.

Jobs is what America needs, Good paying Jobs. Remember that when you have to Vote next time, the mistakes of our future will depend on it.

Sorry for the rant

What goads me to no end is reading this morning America is committing 900 MILLION $$$$ to help rebuild Gaza.... arghhhhhhh!!!!!

In some fairness to Obama, he inherited a 1.3 TRILLION dollar deficit by the former administration.... it's difficult for me to understand how we can say "cut taxes" and 1/2 the deficit in the same sentence???
Parent - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 02-24-2009 05:09
Nothing like supporting BOTH sides of a war...

In the past when taxes were reduced there was enough investment by busnesses that tax revenue actually increased. This worked for Kenedy, Ragan & Bush. The question is: Now that We have lost so much manufacturing capacity, will this still work?

The difference with Obama's tax cuts is that He doesn't want to cut the tax rate for higher incomes who might invest in busness, He wants to INCREASE them. There is no precedent where this has EVER worked.

The rebuilding of Gaza makes less sense than a lot of the stimuless package. I just got a paper from central South Dakota that has a breakdown of the benifits they will recieve. Its about 70% social programs and handouts. 30% water and public works funding.  Minnesota thinks along the same lines. Minnesota is not one of the states on the list for mortgage help alowed for in the "O" bill.

Here is another take on the national debt called the national debt clock.

Try and not watching too long as its a major depression.

In a local restaurant my server had on an Obama t shirt. When the bill came I decided not to tip my server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama Redistribution of Wealth Concept.  He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone whom I deemed more in need...the homeless guy outside.  The server angrily stormed from my sight.  I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside, as I'd decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.  At the end of my rather unscientific Socialistic Redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money that he did earn, even though the actual recipient needed the money more.  I guess this Redistribution of Wealth is an easier thing to swallow in theory than in practical application.

In many ways we have gone beyond Russian and Chineese socialisim.

Read Tolstoy and his notions on "bread labor"

Nowadays,  we in the U.S. are talking about feeding folks who do nothing productive!.....  Ok, were not talking about it.. we are doing it.

Believe me,,,,  In Russia and China.. If you don't work... you don't eat.

The means of production needs to be brought back to America.  America is now a consumer nation and not a productive nation.

my mother live in USSR and she would tell me of the horror stories when the state would come to the village and take most of everything from them, those were they days when her father and the town folk would burry the guns hide the cattle in the forest and put all the potatoes in the attic.
then there were times when the state would take all the childern to do "comunity service to the state", and at the same time grill them for infomation about the parents about what they do and what they have....................................sounding just like big O plan!

Bryon,
And who do you take the money from when nobody has any left because the government has taken it all and everyone has decided they wanna be the one who gets it without earning it?
What do you do when you've essentially killed the cash cow?
I not only don't wanna be a lawyer if the gov is takin it all, I don't wanna be a waiter either. Just let me sit on my azz and have the gov giimee gimme. I sure the hell ain't gonna produce anything if the gov is gonna take it all and give it to someone else.

This is the logical conundrum of socialism. The idea can only be sustained in an economy of capitalism. That way you can sustain the hatred of the have nots for the haves.

Bryon,
Who decides what is the "greater good"?
Funny how Plato, perhaps one of the most brilliant minds the world has known struggled with this problem over 2000 years ago and came to arguably a naive resolution. And every political commentator and philosopher since has failed. But now, Obama and Pelosi, modeled after Lenin and Roosevelt have solved the problem that Plato couldn't. The greater good is 'more government'.
Apparently Obama and Pelosi have decided that lying to us about whats in the bill, calling it an economic stimulus package, trying to scare the crap out of us with talk of economic armeggeddon, while loading it up with billions in progressive program pork is the greater good.
And who decides just how much taking of hard earned money and giving to whomever is requred before its considered handouts?
Parent - - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 02-26-2009 05:03
I would prefer a government like Plato described In "The Republic". One that serves the needs of the country, rather than thier own.
Parent - - By js55 (*****) Date 02-26-2009 13:44
Dave,
Plato's biggest mistake IMO is that he thought philosophers less inclined to corruption than other 'professions', and of course the fact that intellectuals are seldom also effective people of action. Socrates tried to be a man of action and ended up gettin himself executed.
I actually prefer the form of government established by our own founding fathers. They at least recognized the possibility of corruption. Their mistake is underestimating the laziness of the electorate masses in keeping themselves informed (of course in their day the voters were upper class and educated), since the success of the whole endevour depends on an informed and intelligent voter. And of course they could not invision TV, which leads the masses around like sheep in their opinions.
Parent - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 02-27-2009 01:46
I must confess that I have not read "The Republic" in it's entirety, rather a highly condensed version in a book by Will Durant. The part I remember about the governing body is that they were prohibeted from owning material wealth. I doubt that would sit well with most of Our present govt. I agree that Our system of government as practiced in the early days was a good one, I feel it has slipped a bit.
Parent - - By jon20013 (*****) Date 02-26-2009 06:13
The bill, in it's entirety can be seen here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/ARRA_public_review/

Although I advocate the Democratic side of politics, I have to admit I'm NOT impressed with this bill which I have read a large portion of, and see our hard earned tax dollars for many generations twiddled away in just a few years to come.  I suppose there "might" be some short term positive effects but see the economy tanking again and again.... and why wouldn't it?  The bailouts are NOT the solution but part of the problem.

That said, I'm also not one of those who fear the end of the world as we know it, take to the hills with guns and 4 wheel drives... this is just stupid.  The right to bear arms has no affect of what the government can and will do if they chose... unfortunately those days are in our long distant past.

I'm still really miffed about the 900 MILLION $$$$$ commitment to rebuilding Gaza!!!
Parent - By michael kniolek (***) Date 02-26-2009 22:33
why cant the bailout work like this
Bank submitts all deliquent and possibly current small loans in and around the amount of 20,000
lots of us carry some debit so why shouldnt the feds pay off the debit in behalf of us so we are debit free, and the bank gets the money in a way that it can be traced!!!!!!!!!

Scott,

It is recommended to proceed with all experimentation of this type AFTER you have recieved your meal.
Parent - - By swnorris (****) Date 02-24-2009 20:46
I never experiment on an empty stomach.  My favorite experiment is with M & M's.  Whenever I get a pack of plain M & M's, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species.  Against their will, two randomly selected specimen are removed from the pack and placed between my thumb and forefinger.  I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That one is the inferior one.. a loser and a failure. and I eat it immediately.  The winner advances to the next round.  I've found that in general, the brown and red M & M's are tougher, but the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M & M's as a race cannot survive long in the intense theatre of competition that is the modern candy and snack food world.  Occasionally I will get a mutation... a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest.  Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength.  In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.  When I reach the end of the pack, I'm left with one M & M, the strongest of the lot.  Since it would make no sense to eat this superior specimen, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M & M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3 x 5 card reading, "Please use this M & M for breeding purposes."  This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M & M's.  I consider this to be grant money and proceed with my work.

i found this and thought it interesting
Two weeks before Barack Obama won the election, his senior advisers initiated plans to lower expectations on what an Obama administration could accomplish
The crucial assumptions Obama must lay down are
1) solutions to difficult tasks take time,
2) economy is worse than we could ever expect and
3) mistakes will be made. But that is straight talk. We will actually hear phrases that focus groups like, such as: 'we face challenges,' 'we have a long and awesome road ahead,' 'we are all new at this,' 'expect a learning process,' and 'an opportunity to grow.'
And once these assumptions are set, the Obama team will have an easier time maintaining support, despite no manifestations of results.
sounds about right

jane123,

Where do you work? If I visit your restaurant, I'll be the guy wearing orange and purple.  I like to wear these because they're known aphrodisiacs.  Do I need to call ahead for a reserved seat? I prefer to sit with my back to the wall and I like to have a good view of all the exits.  You'll need to make sure that I have crayons and a placemat to color on.  I'll let you know when I'm finished so you can hang it on the wall.  I've gotten pretty good with these over the past few weeks.  Since I've stopped holding the crayon like a butcher knife, I can almost finish coloring an entire placemat without coloring outside the lines.  Coloring sure makes a man thirsty, but I get thirsty too.  While I'm coloring, you can bring me a glass of ice tea in a sippy cup.  If re-fills are free, just bring me a refill for starters and keep 'em coming.  You can go ahead and bring me out an appetizer too.  I like chips and dip, but don't bring out salsa.  Bring out a bucket of lard.  After a couple buckets of lard dip, I'll be ready to order.  I hope you have live food on the menu because I like to kill it and eat it at my table.  It doesn't get any fresher than that.  There's one thing I should probably warn you about.  I spent some time in prison for ripping tags off of some pillows with my bare hands.  Even though I've been out of the big house for several months now, I still feel the need to guard my plate with a fork and a steak knife, and I will definitely stab anyone's hand if they reach anywhere near my plate.  I can't help it.  The response is automatic.  Society has made me this way.  It's just the lightning quick reflexes of an ex-con, hardened by the system.  You really don't have anything to worry about because I'm usually licking my plate clean within thirty seconds after it's placed in front of me.  I don't like to see food wasted, so I always ask people at neighboring tables if I can lick their plates clean when they've finished.  While I'm waiting on dessert, I like to verbally undress nearby female patrons with my bullhorn.  Oh, and one last thing.  Make sure you're able to break a dollar bill so I can leave you a tip.
