Well I have the chance to buy an SAE 300. I was told by the guy that its a 1941 model and it needs a starter. Its powered by a 6 cylinder hercules motor. What do you guys think of this model of Lincolns? I know its not a 200 but its still a lincoln. Anything I should watch out for on it? Also, would i be able to hook an inverter up to it?
Thanks,
Chris

It would help to know the price I again would be very weary of good deals in a bad economy. Maybe tell him you will get a starter put it in and if it runs and welds then deduct the price of the starter from the purchase price if it wont run then who knows.

Sorry about that. The asking price is 500 bucks. And it looks pretty good. Im pretty sure though I could get it for less

Didn't the old Lincolns have a manual crank starter? Fire it up that way and check it out. Of course every engine purchase should have a compression test FIRST!

ok stupid question, but is there any special procedure to hand cranking one of these? And I figure it would be a little difficult to crank a 6 cylinder motor. Thanks

Set the choke, flip the swich and start cranking. Assuming it has the thingy coming off the engine. My first experience with the Lincoln SA whatever it was??? Back in the 70's, I thought they all had to be hand cranked. All I remember was my 130# carcass could get it running just b4 my heart exploded. We were running 120" waterline and my 6'4" B-I-L (awesome dude, swung a 10# sledge with one hand when cleaning off dogs) would take pity on me sometimes and fire it up on the first spin. He was good to have around in a pinch. My other partner in them days was named Jack Daniels and he had a mouth on him....
