found this on roadtechs and wanted some input from guys in the dirt,

http://www.roadtechs.com/const/wwwboard/getpost.php?rec_nbr=101475

found out HCS was a recruiter out in Scottsdale, AZ but don't know jack about them. Times getting rough around here and don't give a rats azz where I gotta go to make a paycheck if I can weld. Put a mirror on my pancake so I can watch my back while welding. 4 month job get ya about $32k if ya don't get blown up, but heck, I may get run over by a drunk driver tomorrow.

I guess if you want to try the overseas thing it maybe a chance worth taking.  I don't know if I would want to go overseas unless it was Ireland.  I probably wouldn't get much work done lol.

Human life is the cheapest commodity there is over there.

Shawn, I think of all of the Middle Eastern countries Jordan wouldn't be bad.  They have had a pretty good relations with the US for quite a while.  King Abdullah went to school in England and the Royal Millitary Academy at Sandhurst.  His mother is English His old lady, Allah blessed her well.

If you gotta eat, you gotta eat. Now if it was Syria or Lebanon, no way.  Jordan IMO is not that bad.  On the State Department's website they have travel advisories telling Americans where it is not safe to go.  Mexico is on their list, Jordan is not.

IMO unless you know the company or know people that work for the company I would be hesitant to work abroad.
A US company is bound by US labor laws so you will know what you are getting into.

A company I use to work for occasionally worked in the middle east but we were based in the US so overtime, taxes, workers rights, discrimination, etc. were the same as working in Kansas.

It was not tax free.
It's been a few years since I've worked outside the US so some laws might have changed.
We were offered risk pay to go to certain countries that were high risk. Bet the list has grown in the last decade.

Plus working over seas is tax free.
Parent - - By BryonLewis (****) Date 03-01-2009 00:45
I think you have to stay overseas a certain length of time before it is tax free.

I know I'm not very good at math but the last time I checked 7-12's was 84 hours per week not 72. Even if they don't pay for lunch it is still 77 hours per week.

But anyay that recruiter should be ashamed of himself offering $27 per hour in the Middle East and no perdiem? What about food and lodging? Where will you stay? In a Third World labor camp?

Also bear  in mind you have to be out of the country for 330 days out of the first 365 days in order to get the tax break. If you are being paid out of AZ you will pay fed tax and Social Security. I'm not sure about AZ state tax but if there is any you will pay that as well. You will probably clear $14 per hour when Obama gets through with you.

Good Luck. I would be very very leary of this recruiter.

Thanks guys, if it was Haliburton I'd be more into it as far as the company name goes. I am leary. Thanks for the math correction, that's one years pay as a ase certified/gm certified master technician in 4 months, except I would'nt be forking out $5000-6000 grand to the tool truck jockeys. Good info, thanks again!

This is completely rhetorical but, "You will probably clear $14 per hour when Obama gets through with you."  I guess no one paid fuc*ing taxes when Bush was the president.  Everyone on these damn forums must be billionaires.

" I guess no one paid fuc*ing taxes when Bush was the president."

It has become obvious that a lot of Democrat politicians DID NOT.
Parent - - By swsweld (****) Date 03-01-2009 04:39
LOL
That was classic Dave.
Parent - - By crater Date 03-01-2009 05:25
Thanks Dave, but bryonlewis, Obama has made it his policy to tax us to death to pay for his big government plan. You will see.
Parent - - By BryonLewis (****) Date 03-01-2009 12:30
I guess you make over $250,000.  Damn, you should be worried.
Parent - By crater Date 03-01-2009 14:34
As a matter of fact, I do but  it's all offshore. I am not worried about it.
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 03-01-2009 14:39
I do to. But it doesnt take much to outsmart Obama Bin Laden. Offshore makes more sense than bowing to Obama the As*. !
Parent - By Lawrence (*****) Date 03-01-2009 14:54
Just keep in mind Bryon... The "real" tax breaks provided by the Bush administration to the middle class over the last 7 years are on Obama's chopping block even as we speak........

And if the economy doesn't come roaring back as is the best case senario (which all Obama's budgets are based)  than that 250K threshold will be crossed quicker than kids feet under a jumprope~!

If you are putting your trust in that tax break to stay up high,,, We will be here just this time next year listening to you cry in your beer over this one....  He will not keep this promise.

I've also heard that small businesses are gonna get a good ol' fashioned azz raping too.
Parent - - By tnhnt (***) Date 03-02-2009 06:59
The first $80,000.00 is tax free but you have to stay a minimum of 330 days!!!

Yet another post hijacked.
How about you all keep your political rants to the off topic bar and grill.
I for one am sick and tired of all the negativity.
He won the election due to the majority of American people voting for him, now let's get on with life.
Regards,
Shane
