I'm gunna weld up a trailer hitch for my truck. I'm using 3/8" plate on the sides to attach to the frame, 3/16" 3" square tube for the center brace and 2 1/2" 1/4" for the receiver tubing. Any tips on buidling this before I begin and is there any easy way to clculate the load that I would be able to pull?

Look at factory made hitches.....  and they make a specialty tubing for receivers - 2 1/2" square - .238" wall thickness - seam removed (need a little play for mud / rust, etc).    Lucky

Yeah that's no joke buy the ready made tube with collar and pin hole already drilled they are made in several lengths.  I used regular tubing on one and had to cut it out got tired of beating it out with a hammer because was stuck with mud and rust lol.  They make square wire brush with a handle on it to help keep the tubes cleaned out too and some no seize in spray cans helps too.
