What else? I have a SA200 that will start up and idle back. It will not fire up when I strike and arc or turn on a power tool. I have checked the R57 the vac works when it idles down, have checked the solenoid and it is OK.

Will it burn a bead if you manually juice it up ? Or run a grinder ?

check your reed switch.

Yes. It will burn a bead if I pin it.
Will also check reed switch.

Where would I find my reed switch ?

r57 machines won't have a reed switch.. Check the yellow wire coming out of your generator housing to your solenoid, checks its connection to the brush holder in the generator housing.

You are right there is no reed switch. I have checked continuity between the screws and it is good on that wire.  Have checked the soleniod with 12 volts and it works and the vacuum seems not to have any leaks.

either you are missing the spring from the idler arm to the manifold, or the needle isn't releasing and allowing the vac to drop out..

I had it off the machine and hooked a hose to it and pulled vac, applied 12 volts and it broke the vac.

ok-- is the spring there?

Where is the spring located?

On the arm coming from the R57 to the carb, there are holes. The spring connects to one of those holes and then to the vac line on the manifold. This spring assists your R57 to release and go to hi idle.

oh i know the spring none of my old rigs ever had 1 so i went to the local auto parts house and got the carb spring for an old chevy with the quadrajet carb and it worked great it dont need to be a strong spring just sumthing to help pull it forward is all it will go back on it's own like it should

Will check this out with another machine. There is no spring on this machine.
Thank You K

kay is never wrong when it comes to welders.....never. she is a walking encyclopedia for sa 200's

with an r-57 ideler the engine will not idle up when you pull the trigger on a grinder or any power tool for that matter you have to pin it at high idle to run power tools
