Where can a person get a good quality, original Vise Grip anymore? Bought some the other day.the Irwin brand original Vise Grip,so it says, but it is far from the American quality I brought years ago. These are now made in China. Probably have to go to an auction and pick up a few 20 year old ones that will be better than the new Chinese crap!!

A guy in Nebraska lives near the old vise grips factory told me it is now shut down so just have to shop around and find the good ones that aren't bought up yet.  Vise Grips story in link below.  Bad thing is you probably didn't get a discount of any kind on those others you bought just paying same price for a name not quality and sadly lots of our tools and other stuff are going that way.  I heard Ingersoll Rand laid workers off and those jobs and impact wrenches probably all be made in China soon.  It really all stinks of corporate fat cat greed !  Quality can be made anywhere for a price if wanted our auto makers here now know that but didn't learn anything.  When are they all going to learn we are tired of buying junk ?  I've already heard the jaws snap right off and break on the china made vise grips so I'm NOT buying any to find out.  There was a place in Kansas?  Cant' recall the name of them right now was buying out other left over tools inventory from other companies that closed or went overseas but last I looked they had lots of china junk too so maybe not worth looking for anymore?

Look for the "Peterson" Name in the logo on the handle for the Original.

That's a crock of you know what. Vise grip brand were the only ones that had a hard enough jaw to actually grip anything.
Anybody checked into snap on or one of the other high end mechanic brands?

I haven't used any of these in a long time but the used to be close to the originals.

Those lame ass snap-on grips are no better then the other chinese vise grips and more expensive, they are also made in china. Nothing high end about snap-on any more except for the price.

Jssec is right looked at pair of mine today said Peterson on one side with emblem and Dewitt NE.  Just so they don't  stamp that on the china ones.  A lot of Snap On stuff isn't made here either anymore and again just paying for a name seems like.  Got to wondering same thing last winter and found a place in Florida imports some German made Elora tools suppose to be good but haven't tried any of their vise grips yet and you can see they are not cheap on their site.  I have a couple Elora metric wrenches not sure where they came from probably a shop auction went to.

says their handcrafted in USA

you may have got a counterfeit imitation. years ago I had a set of Craftsmen adjustable wrenches, Made in USA, someone swapped them out for a set that was made in China, the only difference was the lettering was raised on one set and indented on the other, along with where they were made, and the quality.
