I'm looking at running a PQR for a project this code covers.  All I have available is D14.1- 1997 edition until I get the newest.  I believe 2005 is the most current.

Table 14 -Procedure Qualification -Type and Position Limitations shows that a 1G test only qualifies 1F(flat) fillets.  2G qualifies only 2G grooves but 1F and 2F fillets.

Unless I missed something, that means I need to run 2 tests if I want to qualify 1G grooves and 2F fillets.

Does anyone know if the 2005 edition shows the same information?

I haven't, but you might try checking the AWS website for errata. This sounds like a typo.

I just checked the web page and didn't see anything, but still, it sounds like a typo error.

I checked the 2005 edition. The table lists the test position 1G - qualified for F (under the heading grooves) and F (under the heading fillets). The letter "F" simply indicates the flat position for both groove welds and fillet welds.

So that sounds like the 97 version- 1G qualifies flat grooves and flat fillets.

In order to qualify horizontal fillest, I need to run a horizontal 2G test.  And to run flat grooves I need a 1G test.

I had done the same Al, checked for errata.  I'm hoping the 05 edition will have a revision on it - I just have to wait for the purchasing process to run it's course to get the current rev.

I missed the root of your question. Sorry. I'll check the 2005 edition again in a couple of minutes. I should be able to scan the page for you.

Here's Table 13 from AWS D14.1-2005.

I see your point.

Thanks Al.

I was hoping there was a change but I can see there is not.  Oh, well - it's both a 1G and a 2G test, but that shouldn't be too bad, just 2X what I'd hoped for (E100T1-K3 on A514).

I appreciate your digging that up for me.
