Need to find the longest lasting hard face for a rock reamer. We did some reamers using Lincore 50 and after just a few hundred feet of boring the HF was gone and then some. One of the reamers I saw looked like the HF had sand grain sized of what I'm guessing was carbide. In the areas where it wasn't worn badly it looked as though it may have been applied by GTAW. The reamer are small 16 to 30" so the areas that will be HF are also small. Application process will be limited to SMAW, GMAW/FCAW, GTAW and OA. Thanks- Ted

Look at the Group 4 alloys in the Stoody Product Selection Guide.

I used to work at a place that made downhole tools for directional drilling (ditch witch) and we used Lincore 55 on some rock reamers and crushed carbide or stoody on others.  the crushed carbide came out of texas and it was put on with a spray arc and an overhead hopper that fed directly into the weld puddle.
