what's the going rate or a fair rate to charge for a helper on site . I've got a good hand helping me on a job that may last 2 or 3 weeks .he can weld but  I don't have time get him certified for this job. so he is just keeping me welding (grinding  keeping me rods & anything else to make the job go faster) . I'm paying him $12.00/hr. and would like to pay more. I can charge out every hr. but need to charge a fair rate to keep us working after this job .

Strother, Remember the hidden costs for a employee like matching FICA ,workers comp., and all the other taxes and insurance b.s.  My accountant recommends adding at least 25% on to the wage just for that stuff and then you have to decide what he's worth to you. ( shows up consistantly, doesn't break tools & equipment up,talks toooo much, brings his trouble at home to work, or is just plain irratating after 8 hrs.) Go Luck   PS. GO STEELERS in the hunt for #7

smooth operator , thanks for the input . he is as good of a helper as you could ask for and will make a good welder , works hard and talks just enough to make the day go by faster . thats why I want to get his pay up , could have him out welding making both of us money if he'll stick with me.

Why work hard, when you can work smart?

I guess it does depend on the job and location some jobs I've been able to charge a helpers time at $25 or more , other jobs I'm lucky just to cover what I'm paying them
