THE FINAL INSPECTION
The old man stood and faced the Lord his turn had come at last.
Recalling his journey on the earth it had gone by so fast.
"Come forward and stand before Me", he heard his Maker say
"It's time to remember the man you were and how you've spent your days"
"Although I know your every thought,Your every action and deed,
I want to hear from you today your case you may now plead."
The man looked down at his aged hands…… He had always known
That his time would one day come and he would go home
He thought for just a moment before he spoke out loud
"My life's not much to talk about and I'm really not that proud."
"I'm nothing but a lonely man, but I didn't want it that way
Many sad nights away from home and many lonely days
"I'm an inspector Lord and that's the life that I've lived
I always claimed one day I'd quit I have more in life to give
But inspectors are a rare breed I guess you know that's true
Having to stay gone from the ones we love and working with a rough crowd too
We are often misunderstood hard and rugged men
Yet inside we're not so tough we truly need our friends
We've stared at night at hotel walls about to lose our minds
But in the morning we're back on the job acting like all is fine
But Lord if I'll be honest and do my job one last time today
I guess I fail inspectionI miss the mark …… by a long, long way
After a moment of silence the Lord touched the old man's face
"Look at me my dear, dear child you've ran a grueling race
It's true you didn't meet the specs but don't let that bother you any more
No one else has met them either THAT'S WHAT I'M HERE FOR
Reaching out with a nail scarred hand he led the old man in
To place one day we will all meet again with all our inspector friends
