I have problems arcing up on weld. It is Ok arcing up on the ally to be welded (in front of the bead) but if I try to arc up on a bead I have just been working on, it struggles to get going.

The machine is a thermal arc tigwave 250. Is there a setting to overcome this.

Are you cleaning the area to be welded before you start again? Might be some oxidation on the last passyou made, that you can't get started on. The oxidation that forms is harder to melt than the base metal.

The reason I stop is just to feed some more rod, because I have not got the hang of twisting and feeding the rod.

So I dont clean as I have only just finished the run seconds before.
On my other unit which is an inverter I can do this, thats why I thought it was something to do with the thermal arc unit.
