:)
Thank you for the update.

However, you menton low hardness, was it lower than required? (just curious)

Hi, yes it was, that's one of the reasons why we've decided to replace.

What were the hardnesses you were recording?
Parent - - By rodriguezedb (*) Date 08-07-2009 14:23
We usually accept hardnesses between 180 and 225 HB max, this time we found 170HB in the HAZ and 178 HB in the weld. Equotip test.

The ASME minimum required tensile strength for P5 material is 60ksi. This translates to ~116 BHN.
This also means that the min allowed for a PQR tensile pull is 60ksi, with due recognition of QW-153.1 (d).

I would say that an engineering judgement could consider this prior to a destructive disposition.
180 to 225 is comparable to 90ksi to 110ksi. Is this necesary for your HAZ?

I'm totally agree with you js55. In fact, I'm working in the development of a new experiment - PQR (and WPS) with a little bit higher heat input, beacause in my opinion this is the reason of this unofficial regulation. What do tou think?

225 HB is the maximun allowed value recommended in the WPS and we have indicators-statistics that when we have values under 180 there are problems with the machine calibration related with the heat input.

Dear All
For repairs is very important base metal, because excesive o continuo heat input is dangerous for ZAC or weld metal (for example Q&T steel)
Remember the CODE cover minimum requirement and no is possible found all answers, also not replace experice of enginerie.
