I'm trying to find the P Numbers on 9Cr and HP50 materials....I'm trying to determine if my welders that Qualified using a P1 material is qualified...if the two materials fall between P1 and P11 they should be good to go...
What Section/Code can i look up the 9Cr and HP50 to determine what P number they are?

liftedpowerstro,
9Cr is a P5 so you are fine for that but I have no idea what HP50 is.

HP's are austenitic Fe, Cr, Ni (Ni at ~33%) castings intended for creep rupture high temp oxidizing and carburizing resistance.
They rely most often on alloying from Nb and W and are commonly used for petrochem applications such as heat treat fixtures.

shane,

i remember that i've encountered EN or DIN material spec for 9Cr but our tpi don't want to consider it as P5,
he said EN or DIN is unlisted which is not in asme 9. i guess this is what joey mean.

i ask your opinion, if i have wps for EN 10025 GR S275 (comparable to A36), will you consider it as P1 material if you're reviewing
the wps against asme 9? if acceptable, i think this will save a lot of time and money for not re-doing the welding procedure qualification test.

Bert,
The only European steels I can find recognised by ASME are EN 10028 - 2 / P295GH and EN 10028 - 3 / P275NH & GH.
If it is not recognised by ASME then it will not have a P number.

So will you be qualified to weld on 9Cr with a certificate qualified in P1?

You need to know the Spec No of materials (in Mill Test Cert) to get the accurate P No in ASME IX.

3.2,
Qualification on P1 will qualify you for P5.

Joey,
Not sure what you mean. 9 Cr is a P5 no matter what the specification ??

Shane

Shane,

I thought this clause may be applied :

QW-424.1 Base metals are assigned P- or S-Numbers
in table QW/QB-422; metals that do not appear in table
QW/QB-422 are considered to be unassigned metals except
as otherwise defined in QW-420.1 for base metals having
the same UNS numbers. Unassigned metals shall be identified
in the WPS and on the PQR by specification, type and
grade, or by chemical analysis and mechanical properties.
The minimum tensile strength shall be defined by the organization
that specified the unassigned metal if the tensile
strength of that metal is not defined by the material specification

Regards
Joey

Thanks for the information... the HP50 (i've heard is the same as 35/45 heater tube material..)
Thansk again for all the infromation... glad to have some knowledge here to help me out.
