They didn't specify what this was on. The material suggest Low temp to cryogenic service. I doubt very seriously this was what the designers intended, and I can think of several potential problems with this 'fix'. I'll be following the resolution of it with some interest as it is my understanding it was kicked back by the engineer. We will see.
I've welded in a bunch of weld end valves over the years. These generally had beveled ends for butt welding however some of the smaller ones were socket weld ends. Looking at the rack it sees like there in another valve welded in the same way. Could the valve have been machined for a socket weld and the balance of the flange remains?
