Sorry my englih is not very good, can you help me with a question:

We have a qualified  WPS in a pipe 6"  wt = 0,250 API 5L x 56,

Can we use this WPS to weld a pipe 20" wt= 0,656" API 5L X 56, using API 1104 ? or we need to qualify another WPS ?

Other essential variables donĀ“t change.

we use SMAW  for both welds.

Thanks for your help

Regards

You will need to qualify a new procedure.
API 1104 5.4.2.5 y Table 2 p10 ,<12.7mm or >12.7mm Figure 3 p11
maybe 5.4.2.3 Joint Design?

Both WPS are in the same wall thickness group ( Nominal pipe wall thickness from 0.188 in. (4.8 mm)
through 0.750 in. (19.1 mm).)

12 Mechanized Welding with Filler Metal
Additions

12.5 ESSENTIAL VARIABLES
12.5.1 General
A welding procedure must be re-established as a new procedure
specification and must be completely requalified when
any of the essential variables listed in 12.5.2 are changed.
Changes other than those listed in 12.5.2 may be made in the
procedure without the need for requalification, provided the
procedure specification is revised to show the changes.

12.5.2.5 Pipe Diameter
A change in pipe outside diameter beyond the range established
in the procedure specification constitutes an essential
variable.

Sec. 12 does not apply here since it is manual SMAW, sec. 5 Qualification of Welding Procedures for Welds Containing Filler-metal Additives does. And this really depends on how the procedure was written. Pipe diameter is not an essential variable requiring a re-qualification test under sec. 5.4.2. Wall thickness MAY be, depends on the ranges your company listed. The ranges in sec. 6.2.2 are for welder qualification and also may be applied to procedure quals, but doesn't have to be. So if the procedure in question lists a wall thickness of .250 only, for example, then yes this procedure would need to be qualified by testing again to allow the suggested revision.

This WPS is to  Nominal pipe wall thickness from 0.188 in. (4.8 mm)
through 0.750 in. (19.1 mm).

Diameter is not a esessential variable to WPS but it is a esessential variable to Welder qualification

Yes, that's why I edited to add "Mechanized Welding with Filler Metal Additions" thanks
