Okay folks, I posted this in another spot on the forum, wasn't quite the right spot or topic, so here's possibly the correct one(at least that's what a little birdie told me). This was taken from a video that one of our students sent up to us from their jobsite near Abilene, Texas. My two oldest sons are currently working there too along with around a dozen other students/graduates of our welding program. I may soon be joining them there for a short stint prior to the start of fall classes. Does seem to me that there were some other sunsets included in another post here somewhere, even so, I'm a sucker for a great sunset too, so, post 'em up folks! Best regards, Allan

Hello Mike, I will try to give you a down&dirty rundown on how to do it. After you have composed and posted a post you will see a number of choices at the bottom of it. One of those choices is "attach", if you click on it it will show an empty windown that will have a browse button to the right of it. By clicking on the "browse" button it will bring you to the files on your computer that can provide document, picture, and other file choices. Select the appropriate choice and click on the "open" button, if this is a folder, it will open the choices in the folder, then highlight the particular picture that you would like to include and click the "open" button again. This will bring you to a screen that will allow you to select either simply "uploading" your choice or else it will give you the option to check another small little box to the left and below your choice that can be selected to load the picture or whatever directly to the post or allow it to be selected for viewing by clicking on the link in the post. Hope I haven't totally confused you. Best regards, Allan

Sometimes we miss the obvious and catch the obscure.

This is a pic of the sun it took, its become a daily thing for me, ya know for S*%TS and Giggles
Parent - - By bozaktwo1 (***) Date 08-23-2009 10:44
mike you want to be careful shooting the sun like that.  That black spot in the center is liely a good sign your optics are overloaded.  That's death to a digital camera!
Parent - By Mikeqc1 (****) Date 08-23-2009 14:13
i thought of that, thats why i use a camera that my brother got during a moving job.
Ive shot about 20 or so, and the camera seems ok so far.
ill let you know how long it lasts .........maybe a few weldin pics.
Destructive testing oh yeah

My uncle burned a little hole in the focal plane shutter of His SLR film camera photographing an eclipse. It took a little while to figure out what that white mark was on all the pictures He took afterwards.

Sunset and Sunrise, Atlantic side of Florida.

Hey Byron.  Glad to see you enjoying the Florida coast.

I get jaded to the beach after awhile and need to be reminded who nice it is to live near the ocean.  I have not been to  the Jacksonville beaches for about 2 years now.

When I first moved to New England back in the 1980's I went to the beach for a walk every Sunday afternoon - even in the winter time.

Here are a few.  I have many more somewhere...can't find them right at the moment.

1. Indian Ocean, winter of 2000-2001.  On our way south to Australia after our Gulf tour.
2. Pacific Ocean, 1997.  Somewhere near Guam, heading to Singapore.
3. The Persian Gulf in summer 2000 at sunrise, looking north toward Kuwait (this scan is terrible, in the original you can see the shoreline).
4. Land's End, Cabo san Lucas, Baja California, Mexico.  Feb. 1998.
5. Puget Sound, on the ferry to Seattle, summer 2002.  Mt. Rainier in the background (boogered up by Todd Shipyard).

Hello Curt, I can see that I don't get out nearly as much as some of you folks. I do understand that some of these photos are a result of your military service and I certainly appreciate that greatly. Best regards, Allan

Some are sunsets.. Some are just after... In any event they're all amongst my favorites

The picture of one "Boomer" on the right of the American Trident sub shown in dry dock in the larger picture is a British version of a Trident sub with only a few differences... The most noticeable detail is having the bow planes attached through the bulging hull superstructure as opposed to the American version having them on both sides of the "Fairwater/Conning" Tower above the hull. That picture of the Twin towers was from where I used to live in Queens, New York City taken just after the sunset showing the haze in the background... The picture was taken 10 years before September 11th, 2001. NEVER FORGET!!! The one next to it shows us sailing - well actually cruising into the sunset!!! :) :) :)

Respectfully,
Henry

Hello Henry, here's another one from the windfarm that I'm on. Little late with this one but what the heck. Regards, Allan
Parent - - By darren (***) Date 09-11-2009 10:01
hey aevald
do you notice any ill effects from being around the windmills, lotsa talk about that topic. would appreciate some first hand info form a stalwart fellow such as yourself.
darren
Parent - - By aevald (*****) Date 09-11-2009 19:40
Hello darren, I wouldn't say that I have noticed any ill-effects. I have noticed some changes in my personage, that is, with the heat of the area, humidity, and location of the work, I have experienced a considerable amount of weight-loss and I've sweated enough to clean out all of my pores really well. Seriously though, in Abilene there is a lot of lightning, they shut down all work if they have a strike within a thirty mile radius of any work being performed. If a windmill is being serviced or worked on it can only be done if it has been shutdown, otherwise you aren't allowed to be within a hundred feet of an operational mill. It is my understanding that the mills can be controlled from 3 locations, on-site, from a central control compound on the farm, and from corporate headquarters in Europe. As to any electromagnetic or otherwise types of exposure, where I am from there used to be a large aluminum smelting company and there were issues concerning electromagnetics and their effects on the central nervous system. I do believe in those instances there were documented ill-effects for the long-term workers of that site. Big difference from the electromagnetism generated in a smelting process and those for power generation from wind turbines, in my opinion. I am also an insulin-dependent diabetic and wear an insulin pump, haven't had any issues with my pump(it is a microprocessor controlled electronic unit), and has pretty much been business as usual concerning my diabetic care. Thanks for asking the question Darren. Best regards, Allan

Can you say who your working for?  There have been quite a few built in my area in the last 4-5 yrs by different companies.  Are you doing welding related work or just erection/maintance work? I only got in on making odds and ends tools and some minor equipment repair.  Just curious
Parent - - By darren (***) Date 09-13-2009 05:04
the emf is just one component as you implied, the ill effects that seemed most interesting were the ones attributed to the low frequency noise.

emf in certain spots on the planet is pretty strong from the ground. a line man told me of a wire buried in the ground not far from here was producing 108 volts and it was unterminated on either end, they checked it because i guy got a poke from the wire and he knew it was not hooked up so now they test the voltage on every burried cable even if they know it is an open circuit.
one thing i find interesting is if enough windmills were put up then it would stop the wind completely so on some level windmills are seemingly more eco friendly but there has to be an environmental cost even if is negligable...entropy

on another note have you seen the video simply raw....pretty amazing.

Hello folks, I just got these pictures from my teaching partner, he had been hunting this weekend and had taken the time to record these sunrise photos...... yea sorry not sunsets, yet spectacular all the same. I do have a tainted appreciation for the Pacific Northwest as a result of this sort of view. Hope the rest of you enjoy these as well. Best regards, Allan

Hello Jon, great pic! Are you still on the jobsite by the lake? Great views, but possibly a bit on the cool side, temperature wise? Best regards, Allan
Parent - - By JMCInc (**) Date 12-02-2009 23:40
Yes, we're still bangin' away here. We should have it wrapped up by May/June. It's been in the teens these last few days but not too bad all in all. The cold will come in Jan and Feb.
Last year at this time we had plenty of snow and cold to go around. Pretty open winter so far. These clear cold days deliver some DELUXE alpinglow. My camera can't do justice.
