West Texas panhandle and eastern New Mexico we had 3" snow last Sunday and another 3" Thursday and not above freezing yet today.  More snow so far than we have had all of last winter and first day of winter isn't officially here yet.  I wondered if it had got down there as rain or snow.  El Paso and norht of there in New Mexico got snow again too.  East of us they didn't get snow yesterday.  Does anyone even own a snow shovel or truck blade down there ? :)

Parent - - By RioCampo (***) Date 12-05-2009 05:25
If you want to see a hell of a wreck, come to Texas when it snows.

There was a safety inspector  with shell visiting us from houston this week and he was saying the same thing. Is it poor tires or just a lack of experience driving in the stuff?
Parent - By CWI555 (*****) Date 12-05-2009 06:38
lack of experience.

Hello up-ten, ran into a similar thing when I first moved to Portland, Ore. for a while many years ago. They had a silver-thaw, I had come from eastern Washington, was fairly used to such conditions and was reasonably confident in my own driving skills, everyone elses was where I was scared to death! Best regards, Allan

Awww! Don't feel so bad!!! ;) ;) :) If it's any consolation, it's snowing right now as I type in Pittsburgh, and has been snowing for the past hour and a half...  The darn stuff looks like someone sprinkled some powder sugar all over the place!!! ;) :) :)

Respectfully,
Henry

I was in San Antonio is 1975. I saw what was reported as the first recordable snowfall in San Antonio in over a generation.  Anyone who slept past 9:00 a.m. would have missed the event.

Most Oklahoma drivers are not any better than the Texas drivers.  Just not as many so the pile-ups are usually smaller.

I'm on higher elevation known as the caprock.  Wait 10 minutes and it will change we say lol.  It hasn't snowed much here last 3 years.  If we get 30" or more of snow it's been a wet winter here.  South and east Texas rarely gets snow just rain or ice.  Those of us this from this area see enough of it no big deal but no way I want to go to DFW or other TX cities in a snow storm people don't know how to drive in it lol.  Pretty common for I-40 east west to get shut down because of snow in winter.  NWS says moderate to stronger El Nino so means we are going to get more snow or ice this time.  It's the wind drifiting it messes us here where it's flat.  Last spring early a blowing blizzard killed our wheat and first time 2 generations had seen that happen.

Don't you people know that snow in Houston,Texas on 12/04 PROVES global warming. What's so complicated about that?  :)
Parent - - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 12-07-2009 04:11
The warming of the Arctic is chasing the cold down south, simple as that. :-)
Parent - By swsweld (****) Date 12-07-2009 04:51
Good post Dave. So the melting iceburgs are floating south and cooling the warmer climates. Makes since to me :)
Parent - By waccobird (****) Date 12-07-2009 10:37

Parent - - By up-ten (***) Date 12-07-2009 19:34
We were dumped on with 10" and then the temps dropped with high wind chills. Went to work this morning to find the Genset had run out of fuel on the weekend. Work trailer and washcart all frozen and sent home at 9am.  We didn't open the north gate, you guys closed the south gate. lol
Parent - By Mikeqc1 (****) Date 12-07-2009 22:21
A man would be proud to have 10 " of anything......
Its been colder than normal round my way, but the snow fall has been nothing compared to years past.
I think its Global shifting...hell the Myan data is better then what we have now. lol
Parent - - By FixaLinc (****) Date 12-09-2009 00:41
The south and west gate reopened this afternoon here with 40-60 mph winds after sleet, freezing fog drizzle ice, then 2" snow.  Power out 5 hours then more wind and tumble weeds and dust flying before dark and still blowing.  Snow melted almost but not nice out.
Parent - - By up-ten (***) Date 12-09-2009 04:48
Quite the mix of weather FixaLinc, a guy would have to bring every kind of work clothing for a day like that!
Parent - By FixaLinc (****) Date 12-09-2009 23:37
Just a normal winter day here lol. :)
Parent - - By makeithot (***) Date 12-09-2009 04:39

Parent - - By johnnyh (***) Date 12-09-2009 15:02
I do.  I will post when I get back to Texas.   I am up in North Dakota now and wow.  I do not understand how the folks up here deal with these conditions.  It was -18 when I headed to the refinery this morning.  brrrrrrrrrrr
Parent - By makeithot (***) Date 12-10-2009 00:49
-18 not so bad, Buddy was telling me fort Mac was -28 the other day and winter hasn't even got going yet. Was 180 miles above the artic circle a few years back -50 on the ice plus wind chill.
