I agree except the part where the 14% are hell bent on making the 86% majority villains for expressing their belief in God and how we should suppress our Judeo-Christian values just because it offends the 14%!!! This may be a republic dave, but we are supposed to be practicing democratic principles here and if we don't, then why are we trying to export democracy to the rest of the world??? Seems to me like Jefferson was correct about the oligarchy trying to control the majority of us, and his fears have become a reality!

The other problem I have is these same folks in the minority are pushing to completely eliminate any and all judeo-christian symbols like the ones I pointed out to everyone so that they become aware of this which is wrong IMHO!!! Now I personally do not agree with telling the majority to shut completely up (I just copied and pasted the message which actually came from a friend who sends me a bunch of e-mails), but until they have anything near what constitutes a majority in their opinion on our country's religious symbols, they shouldn't even consider that they are being discriminated against because, I could then turn around and say that they are discriminating against me because of my own personal majority beliefs with respect to this topic, and last time I checked, that crap could never grow wings and fly much less hold any type of logic or common sense in a debate!

So they can talk all they want for all I care!!! I just don't want them to think that I'm discriminating against them for their own opinion, yet at the same time, I'll debate them on this issue any day of the week by just pointing out the facts Dave! Nothing but the facts!!!

So if the health care bill gets passed by the senate by a majority vote, the Republicans can just say: "Wait a minute! This is not a Democracy, this is a Republic instead!!! So the vote doesn't count because we're the Republicans and we don't practice democratic principles!!! " I don't think so Dave!!! :) :) :)

If we were to practice democracy and freedom the way you claim we should, we would end up being nothing more than an ostrich with it's proverbial head in the sand, and I don't see us doing that in our history although, I do see it becoming common practice currently and in the near future sadly to say! :( :( :(

I also do not think that anyone no matter who they are should become Commander In Chief if they never served in the military, but that's a different discussion entirely, so I guess we can agree to disagree on the our own respective opinions Dave.

Weare a representative republic in that We choose people to represent Us rather than each having a direct vote on every nit picking issue. Historicly a democracy eventually turns to mob rule.

I think Our Govt. worked as the founding fathers intended for a good many years, but has gotten off the track in Our and Our parents lifetimes. Our head wasn't in the sand in the early years when the Govt worked as I wish it still did.

I don't side with the 14% or the 86% on this one. Fredom of religion is for all people, but on an individual basis. It is what Our country is founded on, and a good part of the reason My ancesters came to the colony in the first place. It so happens that near all of the founding fathers were Christians. Had there been an even mix of Hindoos, Budists and others Whose belifes didn't steym from mono-thesim, the money might say "In The Gods We Trust" and there might be some other texts written where You see reference to the 10 comanments.

Fredom of religion is given unconditionally, everyone has the right, and nobody is supposed to get preferential treatment. There is no "right" to impose one's views on anybody else.

On the contrary Dave, the Inquisition is exactly what some want because of their ignorance of Islam and intolerance of other religions. Its back to the old problem of arrogance of ignorance. Just because the founders of this country were Christian doesn't mean that only Christianity will be observed. By not having a state religion the basis of this country was set upon secularism which is taking over all of western society. I think that is the main difference between the west and Arab peoples. American's don't understand Sharia law. But didn't the pilgrims' Puritanism seem just as antiquated and backwards. Hell a portion of the fringe Protestants in America today seem much different and repressive.
Let's say that only Christianity is allowed to exist. Which form will it be? Christians can't even get along with other Christians. It has to be Secularism or Singular Theocracy. At least Secularism leaves religious beliefs up to the individual, as it should be. I certainly wouldn't live in a Baptist, Mormon or Pentecostal Nation.

I don't know about that one Mike. I saw a little bit on the news the other day about it. I thought it was a bit ridiculous at first. But then the media seems to have jumped on a story based on what was reported by the boys father and never really got to the truth behind it.

I personally think that there is nothing wrong being Christian, Buddhist, Muslim or even Wicca. I think that if parents want their children to attend a school that has school sanctioned prayer meetings, then they should send them to parochial schools. I would like to send my kids to Catholic schools but they sure ain't free.
Since the majority of property tax, at least here in Missouri, go to the school district I would like to see vouchers given back to the parents if they decide to send their kids to private schools. I don't see any sense of paying for the Public school they having to pay tuition at a private school too. So I'm all for the vouchers.

Because of the variety of denominations available on the American religious market, as well as non-Christian religions I would much rather have NO RELIGION whatsoever mentioned on an official basis in my kids schools. Its not the schools place to feed my kids one belief or the other. I'm Catholic, my kids are Catholic I don't need a Mormon, Baptist, Methodist or whoever teaching my kids religion. If a kid wants to draw a picture of Jesus, unprovoked by teachers, then its no big deal. If a kid, because he/she is Jehovah's Witness can't say the Pledge of Allegience, then so be it. I went to grade school with a girl that did that. In retrospect I fell sorry for here. All the other kids gave her sh*t all the time, saying that she's a Commie and maybe she should move to another country. That sounds familiar huh? The kids never left the house because they neighborhood kids messed with her and her sisters. They eventually moved out of the neighborhood.

the School recognizes Christmas then asks the children to express what it means to them, then Ridicules and punishes the kid over a picture of the sacrifice of the god everyone in the room is celebrating in the first place.

First off nobody on the side of the folks who are opposed to the removal of christian symbols in government buildings or institutions supports that there should only be one religion practiced in this country!!! thats' number onew! Next, the reason why most of the government buildings, institutions have these religious symbols is because at one time over 99% of the population were christians, and now it's gone down to 86% which is still an overwhelming majority yet nonetheless, the minority wants to remove these symbols completely from their current locations which they have been for 200 years or more just because they are offended that their own religion isn't equally represented!!! Well! when they become the overwhelming majority, then they can have an argument that makes sense!!!

Also, If I were to move to an Islamic country and protest the overwhelming display of muslim symbols because I felt that I as a practicing member of a different religion, I would be promptly told to either shut the **** up, or leave the country if you don't like it!!! Yet these folks want to come in to this country, or folks who convert to another religion besides Christianity, want to proclaiM religious intolerance towards every Christian because this government should not show favoritism towards one religion over another??? Hogwash!!! I say the same to them as their bretheren would say to us if we were in thoseother o****ries that do not attempt to practice as much religious freedom as this country allows!!!

In other words, when you become hte majority, you can have the right to change those symbols, but if you're so much in the minority that you're not even close to representing one fourth of the population, then I say TOO FRIGGIN BAD!!! WAIT YOUR TURN!!! UNTIL THEN? DEAL WITH IT!!!

Thats the difference. America is not a theocracy like Saudi Arabia and others. America is a secular nation that happens to be made up of, here's the kicker, made up of people how claim themselves as being Christian. You quoted the number 86%. Ok. I've seen similar numbers. But honestly how many of those 86% attend church regularly. And of those X% that attend church how many LIVE A TRUE AND VIRTUOUS CHRISTIAN EXISTANCE. I think we went from 86% of the American population to perhaps <10%.

I know many people that have proclaimed themselves as Christian but don't attend services, don't read the Bible or at least hang out with anyone who does that can even give them a trickle down synopsis of their proclaimed denomination. I would say that the majority of the 86% are of that group. Religion is not the basis for life in the west. Plain and simple. Would people pray a protracted prayer five times a day? How would the boss like it if everyone stopped 3 times a day for the Angelus? It wouldn't happen. So America being a Christian nation, that's the farthest thing from the truth. There are some Christians here but not that many. Many people now believe that religion oppresses their freedom. They can't smoke, drink, whore around.

Americans are pretty much infadels, agnostics and Apostates.

In my opinion as well as that of the Church, being a Christian is more than saying "I proclaim Jesus Christ as my lord and savior". That would be the bare minimum. But not being properly indoctrinated with the tenents of their denomination.

Now on the other hand, I could give a sh*t one way or another where the 10 Commandments are displayed. Grandfather it all in to the old buildings and keep it out of any new buildings. It doesn't matter. I wouldn't go to a country and stay very long where I had no access to the Church.

That's exactly my point! The same goes about what you say regarding how many christians practice their faith can also be said regardign the non-christians also... So the point I'm making is simple... This is the way it's been since our country started, so if they want something different, then they either go back to where they came from or learn to adapt just like everyone else who came here before them - PERIOD!!! When They allow me to voice my protest regarding their own country's lack of religious tolerance which is by far much, much worse in comparison than it could ever be here, then we'll start to accommodate them as well but until then, if you don't like the way things are here now, then go the phu@k back where you came from and make your own world over there!!! I guess also you didn't comprehend my entire post. You can't just say "I'm a Christian, I went to church once when I was 6". So in that lies your 86%. What I'm saying which IS the truth is this:
America is a secular nation not a Christian nation.
Christmas has been destroyed by consumerism/Capitalism just like most other financially important holidays.
Easter: Eggs and candy.
Feast of St. Valentine: Jewelry, cards flowers and candy.
Feast of St. Patrick: Beer, Beer, Beer.
Cinco de Mayo: Corona and limes.
Labor Day (not as relevent): Beer and grilling.
Memorial Day (not much relevent) : Plastic flowers
Halloween: Costumes and candy
4th of July: Beer and Chinese fireworks. Not liberation from our British oppressors.
Thanksgiving: Tons of food and the kickoff to the Holiday Season ie eat what you can because tomorrow starts the shopping season. Everybody is bit*hing about HOLIDAY. Talk to Wall Street about that one. The "celebration" of Christmas has nothing to do with the Nativity. Its all about buy, buy, buy. Buddhists, athiest and I'm sure Muslims in America celebrate Christmas because this is how its done in America. In all reality, Christmas is the biggest celebration of Capitalism and that's it.

Santa Claus, formerly known as St. Nicholas of Myra a Catholic Bishop is a secular entity. Would kids line up to see a rendition of St. Nicholas? Catholic kids maybe. So that images was secularized as to make the idea of Santa Claus more appealing to the masses. A church a few years ago had an "Easter" presentation. They brought out an Easter bunny and "nailed" it to a cross to teach the kids the difference in the true meaning of Easter and the Capitalist idea of Easter. The kids were fu*king horrified. Me, I think its great. I would love to have seen that first hand.

The idea of America being a Christian nation is noble and I wish it was indeed. Then people would actually give a damn about each other. But instead you can live in you little dream world of denial. I think it would be safe to say that most Americans are as Christian as the 9/11 Terrorists were Muslim. But now with the "Jihad" and "Crusades" going on people are jumping on the bandwagon to try to identify. Just because you wear a Lakers jersey don't mean mean your gonna play with Kobe.

What I am saying about my brilliant quote is this. No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I believe, based on the evidence that I've been given by the media, that the 19 people that did their thing on 9/11/01 labeled themselves as Muslim. Based on what I know about Islam, I don't think that they were truly Muslims, but a bastardized form of Islam that all Muslims are being measured up against, mainly by ignorant bastards. With that said, most Americans, your beloved and unrealistic 86%, are as equally worthy of being called Christians based on their lifestyles and lack of understanding of the true nature of Christ.

First off nobody on the side of the folks who are opposed to the removal of christian symbols in government buildings or institutions supports that there should only be one religion practiced in this country!!! thats' number onew! Next, the reason why most of the government buildings, institutions have these religious symbols is because at one time over 99% of the population were christians, and now it's gone down to 86% which is still an overwhelming majority yet nonetheless, the minority wants to remove these symbols completely from their current locations which they have been for 200 years or more just because they are offended that their own religion isn't equally represented!!! Also, If I were to move to an Islamic country and protest the overwhelming display of muslim symbols because I felt that I as a practicing member of a different religion, I would be promptly told to either shut the **** up, or leave the country if you don't like it!!! Yet these folks want to come in to this country, or folks who convert to another religion besides Christianity, want to proclaiM religious intolerance towards every Christian because this government should not show favoritism towards one religion over another??? I say the same to them as their bretheren would say to us if we were in those other countries that do not attempt to practice anywhere near as much religious freedom as this country allows!!!

In other words, when they become the majority, they can have the right to change those symbols, but if you're so much in the minority that you're not even close to representing one fourth of the population, then I say TOO FRIGGIN BAD!!! WAIT YOUR TURN!!! UNTIL THEN? DEAL WITH IT!!!

Maybe the majority rules in a democracy, Henry, BUT the USA is not a "Democracy"! It is a constitutional Republic. (I,m sure you knew that, and I am sure you know what some of the ramifications of that concept are. So, telling the minority to sit down and shut up would seemingly be beneath you!
