I am bidding a job that requires some Reinforcing Saddles,  I don't have much experience with these.

I have worked on jobs where they have been in the existing system etc.

My question is what is the best way to labor one of these?

For example and 18" branch coming off a 24" header I can labor the 18" twice is the plate saddle just a single pass fillet weld.

Any ideas/advice to help me cover the quote would be appreciated.

Thanks.

PipeIt
Not really enough information to answer.
The PDF file you attached showed a 1/2" fillet at C and 5/8" fillet at D for 18 "to 24" pipe.
Without code and other conditions I would say no they will be multi pass.
But again I am not there and don't have all the info.
Good Luck

Yes I too saw the fillet size called out when I looked at the attachment again.

Thanks!

Just finished a similar job for a customer.  Had a 24" header with 5 - 6" outlets and 3 - 8" outlets. I single passed all of mine but on the other hand they are quite a bit smaller than your 18".

I agree. SMAW would need to be multipass unless you have a LH hand that can run 1/4 inch LH. GMAW or flucore could be single pass. I may be wrong but I believe B31.1 requires 2 pass minimum. I may have this confused with specifications as I do not have my 31.3 handy

It's all there in the product sheet looks like a all round fillet weld can't see another way stick or wire depending on qual's. I'm thinking some pre-heat to avoid distortion???

Every one I ever put on ( which is many ) had to be welded out completly using multiple pases to a 45 degree angle. It was all 1104 code if that makes any diff.
