Im a single hand. I'm working of of a Sa-250. It has 4000 hours its awesome, except for one thing, you cant hook up a remote to it. I was thinking. Is there a away to install a remote in your whip so it can regulate (turndown) the amount of electricity to your stinger. I like to run it hot, I turn it down for my 7018 cap.

Weldtron makes a remote for a sa-250, and I believe it can also be wired for a cables remote (don't take word for that one though) A friend of mine runs a 250 and has a remote.

has anyone ever tried or owns a wireless remote?
Parent - By pipehead (***) Date 01-06-2010 04:13
I looked at those earlier due to this post also being in tricks of the trade. And was curious about them

Haven't tried one but apparently technology costs !  $1750 for that tru remote plus you still need the Lincoln remote for it to plug into.  Weldtron says their remote fits 59 different welders now.

I run a SA-250 and love it. have it wired for a cables remote.

The Weldtron Pipeliner is the one tool I own that makes me look down my nose at the competition. You will not go wrong with this product.

Amen Rick, I think they are the best

I use the same ditch box(remote) between a couple 200s and my SA250. Cable will sell the the pig tails, so you can use the same box on different machines. I have had the box I am using now for close to fifteen years with no problems

Is it a Cable remote your using slagline?
Parent - - By slagline 3 (**) Date 01-07-2010 14:46
Yes sir, The fine folks at Cable will walk you thru the install over the phone if thats what it takes. Their number is on the front of the box. Could not ask for better service, or better people to deal with. The box will get a little warm, as welding progresses, be sure when you wire it up to make all connections tight.

I have a 300D so my new remote plugs right in. But I am glad to know that Cable remotes will stand up to the punishment.

Parent - - By empire welding (**) Date 01-07-2010 03:18
pipehead, sounds like you like your weldtron.  I am shopping around.  did you install yours? how hard was it to install? is the price on the website accurate? around 530.00 with tig conrol. is that worth it? thanks
Parent - - By pipehead (***) Date 01-07-2010 03:34 Edited 01-07-2010 03:37
You can install it yourself. I didn't on my last one, but I believe the one before that took me like 2hrs. yes the price is accurate but I don't run the one with tig control just because I don't tig much. If I remember right the reg. one is just under 400.00 after shipping

If your really interested in a cables I know JTMcC knows alot about them

Parent - - By LongArc (**) Date 01-08-2010 04:49

Parent - By chris2698 (****) Date 01-09-2010 06:54

Parent - - By LongArc (**) Date 01-08-2010 04:48
Has any one seen a remote devise between two pigtails, next to the whip and the lead?
Parent - - By chris2698 (****) Date 01-08-2010 05:06
is this the wireless remote these guys have?? says it will fit a sa 200 and many others http://www.truremote.com/product.php
Parent - - By cole (*) Date 01-10-2010 01:46
Yeah thats the remote they have. They love them, if you get 3 or more they are $1100 or $1200. They make one for pretty much all machines.

The real question is, how far will the helper have to run when he drops that little handheld remote in 12" deep mud?
Parent - - By chris2698 (****) Date 01-10-2010 02:23
with this remote you shouldn't need a helper and in return you make morem oney and the helper won't be breaking your stuff, if you're gonna have a helper then you don't need this remote he will run back to the machine :)
Parent - - By JTMcC (***) Date 01-10-2010 02:54 Edited 01-10-2010 02:57
If you are a pipeliner you will have a helper, period.
And if you're a pipeliner you surely need a remote because the helper has enough to do (those guys/gals don't just stand around lookin pretty, thay work thier butt off) without running to your machine (that may be 100' away or more on a tie-in) to change your heat from bead to hot pass to fill to cap.
The tiny remotes sooner or later disappear in the dirt/sand/mud/snow/ice in my opinion. A cable or tidwell, mounted to a solid magnet on the pipe will work in all conditions from 130 degree to sub zero and in dry or wet or 5' of snow.
You can work a tie-in on mats and drop a cable/tidwell into 10' of water, drag it up by the cord, and go back to work. You can't do that with the designer remotes. I've seen them fail in a light drizzle. Can't make money that way.
My take on pipeline work only, your work may well differ.

JTMcC.

that is true no I totally understand I was just being a smarta** is all. I do agree though I dought these remotes can handle extreme cold probally do alright in heat but the cold nope i dought they hold up very long.
