I was refering more to his house than him in particular.   I think he's up in yankee land right now with all that good cold weather.

He's in what you might like to call "Yankee" land, but he's getting some real "down home" excellent hospitality you would probably not think possible up here in the North!!! :) :) :)

Btw, this part of what you like to refer as "Yankee land" is known to most intelligent folks who don't hold any grudges as PENNSYLVANIA!!!

I may have been born and bred in New York City, but that doesn't mean that I automatically assume that anyone from the South is NOT an American like I am,or feel the need to disrespect my Southern neighbors, because some folks from these parts would take your remarks that rustles these fine folks up here as being the same as "Yankees" as being mighty offensive!!!

Now I'm not one of them but, I know quite a few folks in PENNSYLVANIA as well as a lot of other parts of the North who take issue with your labeling them with the use of the word!!!! Do you know what the news people call the folks here in Pennsylvania between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh which is all of the fine folks who live in between one end of the state and the other end??? People who think that they're from Alabama and think that everyone else should live the same way which btw, makes me feel like these news folks should keep their opinions to themselves because all they're doing is labeling whole bunches of folks without even knowing how each of them actually are. :( :( :(

And even though they're my favorite baseball team, doesn't mean that everyone here doesn't mind being called a "Yankee!!!" In fact, some might take real offense to being called that name, or designating their own locale as being a part of so-called "Yankee land" And I've been living here in PENNSYLVANIA long enough to recognize that a good portion of these folks around here take real issue being called anything other than PENNSYLVANIANS!!! Especially "Yankees!"

I personally consider it a compliment being called a "Yankee" even though my own family roots are more "Southern" than probably anyone else in here since my own family blood is made up of being half Cuban, and the other half being Dominican via the the collision of two cultures known as the Spanish Empire and the Taino Native Peoples of the Orinonco basin of South America that runs through Colombia and Venezuela who migrated to the islands of both Cuba as well as Hispaniola way before a single European ever knew there were another 2 continents on the other side of the Atlantic ocean awaiting their exploration and eventual conquest to the inevitable independence we see today. :) :) :)

Now the last time I looked at a map of the Western Hemisphere, it revealed to me that these places I just mentioned are situated where those two countries as well as the first two countries I mentioned are located further south than any other state in the continental United States!!! :) :) :) So you would think that I might just be a tad offended, but I'm not at all offended by being associated with the term "Yankees" even though I'm more of a "Southern boy" than most folks in here care to even realize!!! :) :) :) Now some folks, and I mean a whole lot of folks from PENNSYLVANIA just might get offended at you for labeling them as being "Yankees," but I'm not at all. I only take offense towards you labeling these fine folks from PENNSYLVANIA who have given me a second chance of life, and have consistently treated me with an enormous amount of respect as well as allowing me to maintain my own dignity of being a born and bred New Yorker who now proudly resides in SOUTH WESTERN PENNSYLVANNIA as being nothing more than folks who live in "Yankee land" :( :( :(

Respectfully,
Henry

Calm down henry,

My own mother is from above the mason dixon line.  And I even call her a yankee from time to time.  But since your were so offended by me using that dirty word.  I think you will be really upset if you ever go to the UK and Ireland like I have.  I was called a yank so many times I lost count long before I could get back to TEXAS.  I was not offended by them using this or calling me this but I did make sure to tell them that I was from TEXAS.  I have also visited Brasil twice, lived in Paranna, Argentina for a year and traveled to Peru, Paraguay, Uraguay and Chile.

Like I said before in my original response, I personally am not upset about you using the term "Yankee land" but, many folks in PENNSYLVANIA most definitely would be...

Now as far as the UK, or Ireland is concerned... I have had the privilege to visit both places on numerous occasions and they always used the term towards me in a very affectionate manner... Besides, I like being called a Yankee!!! Heck! I'm damn PROUD of being one as a matter of fact!!! I mean, the closest team to have won even half of the amount of World Series Championships are the St. Louis Cardinals and We captured the last one!!! :) :) :)

If you go to those Spanish speaking countries in Carribbean, Central & South America, you will find that they will more than likely call us more often than not, "Gringo's" as opposed to "Yankees" although I've been called both without being offended by either one of those words. :) :) :)

So, if you really understood where I was coming from, you would have understood that I personally am not offended,
nor have I ever been offended by the label of being called a "Yankee!!!"

All I'm saying is that most of the rest of the folks who are from Pennsylvania will more than likely become offended of being
labeled as part of "Yankee land" - PERIOD!!! :) :) :) I live amongst these people for quite some time now, and I believe I know
real well how they are by now. Am I offended??? HELL NO!!! I'M A PROUD YANKEE - THANK YOU!!!

Respectfully,
Henry

Henry,

I was reading your first post this morning before my coffee.  Plus I was trying to read small text on my crackberry.

So I didn't understand where you were coming from this morning but after rereading this afternoon I do see where you were not offended personally.

When I was living in argentina it wasn't some much gringo as americano or tejano.  Both of which were fine with me.  The only thing I didn't like was I was trying learn and speak the regional dialect of spanish called castillano.  And they were wanting to try out the proper british english on me.  So my brain was trying to do two translations at once.  The people done there that called me yankee or yank were the kiwis and aussies.  None of which bothered me at all.

I hope we can put this behind cause I have always respected you insight into all things welding especially code related.

To someone from the south, anybody from north of the Mason Dixon line is a Yankee.

To someone from north of the Mason Dixon line, anybody from new England is a Yankee.

To someone from New England, anybody from Maine is a Yankee.

To someone from Maine, anybody that doesn't have indoor plumbing is a Yankee.

I better stop here.
