I would like to know if anybody on this site has any experience or have seen this set up before.
I have a ford F350 with a gas V10 engine in it and am thinking about putting a cummins engine with an allison transmission in it. I am going to use it
as a rig truck, my concern is with all the weight of the machine, tools and the rough roads, if it is worth going through all the trouble.
I wish that I could go and buy one with that setup, but have not been able to find a company that builds such trucks.
I would appreciate all the comments, good and bad, so that way I would know what I am getting into and if it is worthwile.

The Cummins swap would be pretty straight forward. The addition of the Allison might not be so simple unless you find a tranny out of a larger truck, but they tend to be computer controlled. Making a GM Allison work might prove to be costly? Everybody wants an auto? I get on the highway in Nashville and can drive to Cleveland before I shift gears to pull over for fuel, almost like an auto. Gets better fuel mileage than an auto, less maintenance costs than an auto(oil changes, flushing the tranny) less expensive to repair than an auto(mine has 145k, original clutch you auto guys are changin oil $$$ Got a saturn with 300k original clutch, never touched manual trans) But, I guess some guys just don't like rowing the gears. LoL!

As far as weight goes you would have to find out(owners manual) what it is rated at, GVWR, rear axle ratings for the specific year. Found something on the web for 2005 F350 said 13K GVWR, if that's what yours is you'd be ok more than likely. 

Here's a site that I've been going to for years. There is a guy on there that did an 03' I believe with a 24 valve, think it was one of the newer one's with the CP3 on it. Anyhow, turned out pretty slick, saw him run on the dyno.

I know a fella that put a cummins in a F450 don't know about a F350 cant see it be any different than a 3500 dodge though

I would make sure the the the front frame rails could support the extra weight of a diesel motor. The front rails are usually smaller for gas motors to cut down on weight on the truck. Just something to look into. I would do it if i had the money too.

Some others have mentioned frame considerations, I don't know about Your truck, but '80s & '90s Fords used a different cross member for the diesel, it was stamped from .240" thick material. I don't remember what thicness was used for a gas F 350.

The truck is a 2001 dually. I have talked to a service manager at a local dealership and he told me that that frame was the same for both (gas and diesel) for that year, but still doing research in other places.

I have a 2001 F350 with a 7.3 liter which is a good engine, but just recently I got a pretty good deal on a 2000 F350 with a V10 gas engine and I want to set it up as a second rig truck.
Just want to make sure that this conversion will work as good or better than a regular truck out in the field.

I hear the Allisons are an awesome tranny but if it were me, I would put the 6 speed in behind the Cummins if possible to do in a Ford. I have over 268000 miles on my 2002 Dodge 3500. Original clutch and everything is still tight and running strong. Hard to beat that 5.9...
