Was wondering how many passes should be used when lating down a 3/4 " fillet weld. 3/4" plate to 7/8" plate. This is to be used a a temporary structural patch on a lime kiln.Any help would be appreciated.

I make that as between 9 to 12 passes using 0.045" FCAW at about 250 amps, per procedures we commonly use. Of course if we had a lot of those welds to do, we would go with larger wire to reduce the number of passes.
The best way to find out is to weld out a full scale mock-up joint of what you want to do.

Chet's response was right on the money for FCAW horizontal position. A FCAW vertical up procedure would require about 5 or 6 passes and a little less amps.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had meant to say those parameters were for horizontal position but forgot it.

CHG,
We usually acheive a 3/4" fillet on a consistant basis with about 10 passes. That is with 3/32" FCAW wire at about 350A in 2F position.
