when I qualified my WPS for CJP Groove Welds for Tubular Connections under (3) T-, Y-, K-connections with backing or backgouging (see 4.12.3)....(2) the joint detail of Figure 4.25(B) was used in 2G position (tubular).

however, i don't understand why in Table 4.1 it shows 2G not allowed for T-K-Y groove CJP.

i'm confused because Fig 4.25(B) is for CJP but contradicts Table 4.1

appreciate your assistance on interpretation.

thanks

I don't see how Table 4.1 says you can't have 2G for TYK connections.  I read it as saying you run both 2G and 5G tests, and then you're qualified for all positions.

dont forget that i qualified the wps with backing......are you saying that if have 2G & 5G qualified using Fig 4.25B....then qualified for all positions?

i think fig 4.25(B) is only meant for PJP based on table 4.1....but all my TKY production weld has backing strip?

I think I see what you mean.  4.12 says TYK with backing is qualified with Fig. 4.25(B), but then the footnotes under TYK CJP in Table 4.1 send you to other test specimen details.  That does seem weird.

I asked around...

I think the code is poorly written here.  All the cases listed in footnote (e) are cases of no backing, so none of them apply to your situation, so it looks like footnote (e) simply does not apply and thus the code stands as it is, and the relevant provision is 4.12.3, which directs you to Fig. 4.25.

But I don't like it.
